1993 Marked the beginning of the forth generation which persisted until 2002.New technology and material made the fourth generation greatly improved over the prior years. Weight was reduced with the use of plastic body panels sitting atop a steel space frame. Performance was increased thanks in part to a better suspension system. In 1993, hevrolet offered the LT1 8 cylinder engine, hich have been in production for a year on the Corvette. A sixth-speed manual gear box was offered with the LT1 engine. The Camaro returned to the Indianapolis 500 as the honorary pace car in 1993. To conmemorate this historical accomplishment, hevrolet offered a limited quantity of special edition Camaros painted in black and white color scheme.
The fourth generation Camaro featuring completely new and extremely smooth styling was introduced for 1993 as a Coupe only. The Z28 feature a 275 HP version of the Corvette LT1 small block V8 making the Camaro performance model the closest car to a Corvette available with a rear seat. A Camaro Z28 paced the 1993 Indianapolis 500 marking the fourth time the brand had served as the Indy pace car.
