DESCRIPTION
1962 Chevrolet Greenbrier Corvair Van Custom Hot Rod
Up for sale and auction is this retro modified 1962 Chevy Greenbrier Van Hot Rod. This van is in running and driving condition with a fresh engine rebuild that has yielded a strong and fun little hot rod van. Having passed the New York State inspection a few weeks ago, nd having a clean title, ays a lot about this vintage Chevy's condition as: ready to be driven and enjoyed or improved on as your next head-turning project. Never have I gotten more compliments about a vehicle I was driving!!!
Basic Condition: The van is running and driving great and is road legal (all lights and controls working). The van is complete, ot missing any parts. All of the doors and windows work. The upper body has a few places where the body filler is cracking the paint from sitting outside, hereas the rockers, loors and wheel wells are solid. Bumper bolts have been shaved requiring some paint. The pictures show the details of the good and bad parts with more details below.
History: This van was restored and painted in the early 2000s and driven until 2006 where a cylinder & head issue of unknown proportion (and the owner's divorce) sidelined it in a front yard (outside unfortunately) since then (~8yrs). I rescued it this summer and it's been given new life for your enjoyment! ! !
In August the resurrection began with the entire drivetrain being pulled and rebuilt. All receipts for the work done are available.
What has been done:
Complete engine rebuild w/ .030 over pistons and cylinders: 167 cuin (2717 cc), new camshaft (& lifters), long with everything up to and including rebuilt carburetors.
Close inspection and approval of the transmission and rear axle assembly's internal condition
New U-joints, ew clutch and a rebuilt starter w/ new solenoid
Rebuilt a small section of rusted frame rail as well as the near battery tray area
Rebuilt exhaust system with a Thrush Turbo muffler (the exhaust note attitude fits the look!!)
Lubed and tightened: Clutch linkage, teering, hrottle linkage, hift linkage, ront hubs
What is working:
Entire drivetrain and vehicle chassis ie: "running and driving"
Brakes and Parking Brake
All lights and signals, orn, tc. (passed NYS inspection)
Speedometer / Odometer
All windows and doors roll up, atch and lock
Blaupunkt detachable face CD / Stereo player
What isn't working:
There are 1 or 2 missing window seals
The paint has places where the body work / filler has been compromised from sitting.
The lower sections of the front door interior panels have water damage due to the lack of door seals during storage
Heating system requires a new fan cage (motor works) as well as some ducting
Tachometer & Fuel Gauge
Manifold vacuum and Head Temp gauges
Speakers????
Noteworthy Characteristics:
An upgraded 110 HP engine from a 1965 Corvair (stock '62 van got the 95 HP motor)
Otto's aftermarket aluminum finned oil pan and valve covers
Replaced generator with a more modern GM alternator (charging strong)
Tons of purple powder coated components
Completely reupholstered interior with embossed flames in the front door panels
Aftermarket front bucket seats.
Seat belts throughout.
The van is complete. There are no missing pieces / parts that can't be found.
Aftermarket aluminum wheels with low and high profile tires adding to the hot rod stance
Shaved bumper bolts (requires the bumpers to be painted)
Full set of factory workshop and build manuals included
