Description for Chevrolet Corvette 1973
I've always wanted one of these since I was young, o when the right one came along I pounced without regard to thinking that with 2 seats, leave one of my kids at home. So I had my fun working on it and driving it, 'm now looking for something with 4 seats.
So about the car:
The Good: Honest matching numbers L-82 with correct heads, arb, ell housing, nd trans. It is a "CLR" coded engine, eaning it's mated to a 4 speed. In this case, t's the Muncy M21 close-ratio gearbox. It has MANY factory options including A/C, /B, /S, /W, eluxe interior and tilt/tele steering column. It's been a CO car its entire life and was parked during the winters, s it is now. So no rust issues with the undercarriage or birdcage. The body is great with nothing missing and doesn't appear to have accident damage. I purchased it from a friend of the original owner, o you will be the 4th. The vacuum system was serviced and works great. The drivetrain was rebuilt 25,000 miles ago and runs like it. It has hooker headers with sidepipes that sound great. The Appliance MagWire wheels may or may not be your cup of tea. It is a factory red Vette coded with the Deluxe Medium Saddle Leather interior.
The car drives wonderfully. The P/S is very noticeable and the front end goes where you point it. It handles wonderfully. I drove the car like I was going to keep it, o I never raced it. I never even put the engine above 4000 RPM, never needed to. The speed is intoxicating.
The Bad: The seats are usable but could use new foam and covers. The paintjob appears to be of Maaco quality and the front nose is cracked. The previous owner tried to install a center digital dash, ut couldn't get it to work, o some electrical work will be needed. The A/C compressor sprung a leak and was removed. All the components in the car were left and sealed up. Included are all the parts except the compressor. The windshield is cracked. The horn does not work and the telescoping feature needs to be tightened. It locks, ust not enough. The driver's side A Arm bushing squeaks.
The Ugly: Yes, he interior. The previous owner had the interior covered in a leatherette material back in the late 70s, hich apparently was all the rage. It was just too old and dirty to save so I have spent a lot of time stripping it off to reveal mostly original panels. They are covered in an adhesive residue, o that will need to be removed. But for the most part, verything just needs minor repair and dye.
What's Included: With the car are a lot of parts. Many expensive and new:
Correct rear tail lights, ew seatbelts - Old ones included, ll interior panels (require cleaning, inor repair and dye), orrect year radio, ll A/C components with exception of compressor, auge assembly, nterior hardware kit, ew headlight switch, service manuals with wiring diagram, ew carpet ki, -82 air cleaner base, hift boot seal, ey blanks, pare tire carrier V Strap, riginal owner's manual, ll ducting for climate control, riginal jack and owner's manual.
All in all, great quasi-project that you can drive and enjoy now. The 1973 was the first year of the L-82 (oh, aster than the LS5 by the way, ccording to Car and Driver that year), he first year of added safety features, nd a one year only design. Everything that makes muscle cars desirable, his car has. It seems Corvettes have always lagged in terms of value, ut I have been keeping an eye on values of the C3s and they are starting to come up. Hagertys has this car, n fair condition (the lowest grade), ith the options at $17,150. I want it to go to a good home so I'm very negotiable with the right person.
