Description for Chevrolet Other 1960
1960 Chevrolet C-40 Utility Body Fire Service Truck - 9,665 Original Miles!
This truck belonged to Schering Plough's Fire Department in Union, ew Jersey and spent its life in their private fire department at the facility. For over 60 years, t traveled around their massive facility. It was mechanically well maintained and services. It has a 235 engine and a four speed manual transmission. It is a dually! All the tires appear to be new. It runs, rives and stops as it should. In 2013 or thereabouts, chering Plough was sold to Merck. Merck closed the Union plant and all the assets were sold off including this truck.
I was going to begin to restore this truck to its original glory but have too many projects to given it the attention that it needs. I would rather someone who does. My loss; your gain!
The good: It runs like a top and doesn't need any mechanical attention. All mechanical systems are great. It starts quickly, uns smoothly and stops!
The bad: It has some rust. Drivers floor, rivers side rocker panel. Inner fenders, ypical lower portion of fenders, he bottoms of the utility body wheel skirts as well as some surface rust and a cracked windshield.
More good: I have most of the parts from Classic Industries and LMC. I have a new windshield and gasket, river's side floor sheet metal and rocker panel, hrome rocker panel moldings, irewall cover, oor weather strip, love box and lock, ubber carpet, nd new seat covers. Probably well over $1,000 of new reproduction parts go with the truck. The inner fenders and fender patch panels are readily available at LMC at very reasonable prices.
Can you drive it home? I suspect that you can. I have never driven it more than a few miles but suspect that depending on the distance, ou probably could. As a utility truck, here is no heater so it would be a cold ride home.
Please note that this truck is available for local sale. I reserve the right to end the auction early in the event that the truck sells locally prior to the end of the auction.
