Highlights-
Car is a nice presentable driver, with a non-matching (NOM) 327/300 base motor, Turbo 400 automatic transmission, both tops (white convertible top and painted hardtop), power steering, power brakes and tinted glass. The car starts, idles, runs and drives very well. Car has new base coat - clear coat paint, carpets, seat covers, tires, front coil springs, front shocks, front end suspension package, battery, voltage regulator, horn relay, and turn signal switch. Starter, alternator and windshield wiper motor have all been rebuilt.
FRAME & BODY
The frame, birdcage, pillar posts and radiator support are all solid. There is only surface rust on the frame and under carriage; no soft spots or rust holes. There are two (2) large nuts that have been welded to the bottom on both frame rails (one on each side). The nuts are located about where the doors end - possibly side exhaust mounting points? Door frames are rust-free.
Overall, the body is in good shape, with decent gaps. Car has been repaired at some point in time on the RH (passenger side) door jamb area, by the right rear quarter panel. This area was cleaned up prior to repainting, but the repair work is still noticeable when the RH door is open (see 2nd last photo). LH (driver’s side) floor pan area has been repaired, and is noticeable only from under the car. RH (passenger side) hood receiver area has also been repaired, but looks OK, and latches fine. Car has a later (‘73-76) Corvette long hood, as the entire wiper door assembly has been removed. Headlight openings have been filled in, with the headlights moved down under the front bumper behind the LH and RH front grilles. Looking under the front end of the car, it appears that original headlight assemblies could be cut in with minimum difficulty. A box of miscellaneous headlight assembly parts (headlamp covers, frames, hardware, etc.), is included, and goes with the car (see last photo). 3 of the 4 existing headlights are original T-3’s. The hardtop is aftermarket. I use the hardtop only when the car is stored (over winter), as it doesn’t seal as well as a factory hardtop (wind noise and/or rattles when driving).
Car was repainted red last summer (originally Polar White). Car was red when I acquired the car, so the car did not need stripped down to bare fiberglass before painting, except in some areas (top of rear deck, hardtop and gas door). Paint is not concurs, but looks good for a driver. Some left-over base coat paint and clear coat remain, and go with the car. All outside emblems have been removed. Windshield glass is tinted/shaded. Door glass is also tinted, and both side windows have a few nicks/scratches. Rear compartment area is good, but there is a hole in the bottom fiberglass section within the battery compartment.
EXTERIOR
Front bumper is nice. Front bumperettes are driver quality; rear bumpers are both cloudy/scratched. All three (3) front grilles and both front turn signal assemblies are fine. Lower front grille chrome is there, but pitted. Convertible top is white, and in very nice shape. Convertible top frame is solid, but needs final adjusted to the body/door glass. Hardtop is aftermarket, and latches with standard hardware store nuts and bolts. Rear exhaust bezels are included, but not installed. Rear valence panel is correct for 1968, with the back-up lights installedand operational. Lower front valence is cracked on the RH (passenger) side. Lower rocker covers (aluminum), are both in very good condition. Rear license plate bezel is pitted. All four (4) wheels are 15” Corvette style rallies, but I can’t tell if they are the AG coded ’68 only wheels, due to heavy paint. Spare tire and spare tire tub assembly are all there.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT
Engine compartment is relatively clean, with a4-core radiator. No wiper door assembly, but both upper fender windshield molding pieces are there. Windshield wiper motor was recently gone through. Wiper washer bottle (black) is there, but wiper washers don’t operate. Some ignition shielding parts are there, and go with the car. Car recently had a tune up, oil change, new filters and fan belts. Transmission filter and transmission pan gasket were just replaced. Starter and alternator have both been rebuilt; voltage regulator and horn relay are new. The front end was aligned after the front-end rebuild kit and new Cooper tires were installed. Radiator fan was just replaced with an updated unit from SummitRacing (engine photoshows an aluminum flex-fan, which wasreplaced).
DRIVETRAIN
Engine starts, runs, drives and shifts fine. The original engine is no longer with the car. The non-matching 327/300 base motor in the car now, was in the car when I bought it two years ago. Exhaust looks rusty in spots, but sounds fine. No smog parts.
INTERIOR
Interior has new carpet and leather seat covers. Upper and lower dash pads, console, shifter plate and door panels are all weathered, and driver quality. Seat backs are OK, but have their share of chips and cracks. Chrome hockey sticks (4), on the seats, have slight corrosion in spots. Horn button and quarter trim pieces are well worn. Quarter trim pieces have, “pilot job” stamped on the back sides. Inside windshield trim, sunvisors and rear view mirror assembly are fair-good driver quality. Steering wheel is the correct ‘67/68 plastic wood grain wheel, with two (2) small cracks. Steering column is in good condition. The plastic E-brake cover is there, but cracked on top. Seat belts in the car when I bought it (black/non-Corvette), were rusty and locked up, so I replaced them with Green Deluxe seat belts, out of a Chevelle (as I already had them here, gathering dust). Stock AM-FM radio is there, but doesn’t work, as there are no speakers behind the kick panels. Speedometer and Tachometer work fine, but the clock doesn’t work. Tachometer shows a 5,300 RPM redline (correct for a base car).
OVERALL ASSESSMENT
I would call this car a very presentable driver. The car is far from original, but still looks good and runswell. Great oil pressure and no overheating issues. My intention from day one was to have a clean, dependable driver that I could enjoy and not worry about. I never intended to restore the car, or bring it back to original. I have all receipts for the work I’ve done in the two (2) years since I’ve owned it. There is no factory GM paperwork with the car.
I have a clear Ohio title in my name. The car is located about 30 miles southeast of Columbus, Ohio, and iscurrently registered and insured. Personal inspections of the car are recommended and encouraged. I wouldbe happy to prepare the car for shipment, or help load. I can store the car for up to 60 days (or longer), once paid for- let me know. Call or email with any questions.
Car is being relisted due to zerocommunication from previous high bidder.
