Description for Chevrolet Corvette 1969
This car was purchased new by a doctor who kept it for 30 years. He drove it regularly for about ten years and then stored it in his garage for about 20. Arthur lived in the neighborhood and had fond memories of seeing the car being driven on local roads. Arthur would check in from time to time to see if the doctor was interested in selling the car. After all these years the doctor explained that his grand children would soon be old enough to drive and were arguing over who would get "the 'Vette". Arthur purchased the car in May, 2000 (see pics).I bought the car from Arthur in August, 2000.
The car was running and driving but it was in poor condition with the original paint falling off. I removed all the exterior chrome and trim and had the car stripped to bare fiber glass by a shop that did plastic media blasting. The man who did the work was very impressed with the lack of previous collision damage and the excellent condition of the original body seams. He said that usually when he strips a vintage Vette he uncovers nightmares.
After that I replaced the paint, chrome, trim, convertible top, upholstery, exhaust (with factory GM covers), brakes and many other parts.
This car was originally equipped with a 427/390 engine. That engine was replaced before I bought the car. The engine codes are T0325I0 and 3916321. These codes show that the engine is a 1968 427/400, which was only available in the Corvette. The great debate over engine block restamping to achieve the coveted "matching numbers" is a topic I never cared about.
Since buying the car almost 16 years ago I have driven it less than 3000 miles. If the weather and road conditions are perfect I might go for a ride, other wise it stays in the garage. I have never driven it at night, although the head lights work properly.
This description and the pictures can not convey the magnificent sounds this car makes. While not being a 100 point show car, it is an absolutely awesome driver.
