Description for Chevrolet Impala 1965
1965 Impala SSThis car has been in storage since 1991 when it was painted. The history before that is uncertain. It currently has a 1969 327 cu.in. engine in it that seems to run well. The car originally had a 283.
Here are the items I addressed to get the car running.
- New fuel tank with new sender.
- New exhaust manifold gaskets
- New valve cover gaskets
- New lower radiator hose
- New belts & power steering hoses
- New water pump and heater hoses.
- New plugs, Cap & Rotor.
- New exhaust pipe (using the glass pack mufflers that were on the car) exiting in front of the rear wheels with stainless tips.
- Installed a carb kit and thermostat.
- Changed engine oil and filter
- New MSD spark plug wires ( the wires in the photo are ones I took off)
- Installed 2 new wheel cylinders and rubber brake lines on the front. Bled the brakes.
Without knowing all the history, and in summary, this would make a great driver or an excellent candidate for a beautiful classic restoration.
The body of the car is in good shape and what I would describe as solid. It appears there has been work to the left rear quarter panel and the left rear rocker area. Beyond that, it can be difficult to tell since the paint job is certainly not show quality and you can see areas where the surface was sanded before paint. The trunk is rusted from the pad, I suppose after sitting with moisture as this also caused the rear window deck to rot. I threw both items out.
When looking under the car, there is no rusting through any panels with the exception of the trunk. The frame is in great shape! Again, it would appear to be a great candidate for a frame off restoration. The tires hold air but are weather cracked. The wheels are not original, but I do have the original SS hub caps.
I will let the photos speak for themselves. Keep in mind the car is over 50 years old! Note that front upper windshield trim is in the back seat, needs to be installed.
My plans were to restore, but time to do so is the challenge.
Good Luck!
