Description for Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 1955
NOW IS THE CHANCE TO OWN THIS RARE AMERICAN HOT ROD OF YOUR DREAMS!This American classic Chevrolet is in amazing condition considering it rolled off the assembly line the same year Bill Haley and his Comets released the song "Rock Around The Clock". Tons of great upgrades have been done to this Belair yet before I give you all the sexy mechanical details, let me tell you a bit about my history with this car.
My name is Doug and when I was just a kid I saw Harrison Ford as Bob Falfa driving a badass black 1955 Chevy Belair in the classic film American Graffiti. Though I was several years away from being able to drive, I knew I had to have a '55 of my own. Years passed and the Belair was still just a dream. Granted, I was deep into '55 Chevy project, but that vehicle is a short-bed step side pickup.
And then it happened.
In January of 2011 I was tired of waiting for the truck to be completed, and happened to be "just looking" at different car sites and BOOM, there she was. A sexy, black pearl metallic, 1955 Chevrolet Belair 2 door hardtop. The seller told me he'd built this car for his girlfriend because she really liked the look. Since they had unfortunately broken up, he didn't want the reminder around anymore. I went to check it out and was impressed. It wasn't a rotisserie every nut and bolt done restoration garage queen, this car was built to drive and enjoy. I liked that. He had minimized the engine compartment clutter by relocating the battery to the trunk and smoothing the fire wall. He installed a professionally built 468 ci Chevy big block with all the goodies, and a huge aluminum radiator with electric fans to keep it cool. He'd dropped the front end 2" and installed disc brakes. He'd put in a Currie 9" ford rear end and installed a 4 link coil over set-up, which keeps the big beefy Mickey Thompson street slicks on the pavement! (He said he'd taken it to the strip a few times for fun) He'd had the car painted and the interior re-upholstered, complete with racing style seat belts up front. He had the trunk carpeted, and installed a shutoff for the battery along with a "popper" since he'd taken off the rear lock and ornament leaving the trunk nice and smooth. I saw that the electric fuel pump was installed on the frame rail near the fuel tank. There is so much good stuff added to this car, but I'll get to the rest of the goodies in a minute.
Before I get to all the good stuff, let's talk about the not-so-good-stuff. There are some minor issues but certainly no major issue for any car enthusiast. I noticed there were some things the previous owner/restorer hadn't done to the car like install a heater or a/c, windshield wiper motor or hook up the speedometer/odometer. As such driving in the rain with the car as-is will be not possible until a wiper motor gets installed (but who would EVER drive this beauty in the rain?) and since there is no working speedo/odo, the exact mileage is unknown. When I bought the car, the owner told me that the motor only had about 1,000 miles on it and in the short time I've had it, I've only put on about 1,500 miles on it so it's safe to say that in it's current state, the engine has less than 5,000 miles on it. Since many major components to the car have also been upgraded (brakes, suspension, etc.) the car is an old classic with modern upgrades. HOWEVER, some of the best parts of the car have never been touched such as the glass appears to be original and is in really good shape, although a few pieces look like they're getting a little cloudy. There were also a few imperfections in the paint/body work, however, those things didn't matter at all to me when I bought the car and most likely they won't matter to you either. From a few feet away though they are un-noticeable.
OK, more good stuff! So anyway, I brought her home and our family has had a blast taking her out and showing her off. The kids are simply amazed at how much attention this car gets. I'm not surprised, not only does it look cool, it has a cool sound too, thanks to the built big block with that comp cam breathing air and fuel in through the 750 cfm Holley Double Pumper Carb, and exhaust out through the Hooker Super Comp Headers and 2 ½ inch dual flowmasters. And speaking of great sound, one of the only things we've done to the car is add an awesome sound system with an Alpine Bluetooth head unit that easily connects to the phone. The 100 watt Kicker amps, speakers and sub round this system out. The rubber under the hood appears to be in excellent condition with no signs of dry rot or cracks on the hoses or belts. Oil and lubricants have been regularly maintained and the tires are in great shape (street slicks in the back and good treads on the front). This baby is ready to drive, as is, right now!
So why is my dream for sale? Just as in American Graffiti, (a story about some high school grads and their last night cruising the strip with their buddies before they go off to college) it's time to start a new chapter in our lives. At long last, the '55 Chevy truck is finally done, we have too much stuff and not enough room. On top of that, several of our kids are off to college, (and that, as they say, ain't cheap) so the family rides are few and far between. While we've had a lot of fun and created some awesome memories in our Belair, the time has come to say good-bye and let someone else realize their dreams, enjoy this car and create some memories of their own. If that's you, I invite you to take action now. Your opportunity to own this piece of classic American iron is here, now! Will you grasp it and take her home? This is a rare opportunity to own the car of your dreams so don't let this one pass you by!
