Description for Chevrolet Camaro 1979
Please read before asking questions. I know this is a long add, but the answers to your questions are probably below. Also, I ask that you do not offer trades or offers below the asking price as the price is set at the minimum I will take and worth every penny, I might add. I also ask that you are courteous with your bids and complete the purchase. If the vehicle is listed, then it is for sale so no need to ask if I still have it. Vehicle is not for sale locally, so ebay is it. Treat me with respect and I will return it.
I have had the privilege of caring and enjoying this beautiful 1979 Camaro for the past 26 years. The car was originally from Texas, but I purchased it from a dealer in Florida in 1990 and brought it to Michigan. In 1993, I did a total restoration which included entire drivetrain, interior, and paint. The car remains in much the same condition as it has since the restore 23 years ago. Everything done to this car has been done right. It has been meticulously taken care of both cosmetically and mechanically, but it has been enjoyed by being driven and shown at shows so there is some evidence of a life well lived. It has been rained on a total of 5 times in the last 26 years and never driven in snow or even a hint of salt.
Car has unknown miles as the odometer does not work (speedo is fine and calibrated to the rear end and tires). I have put less than 500 miles on it in the 23 years since the restore, so figure about 15,000 miles since everything was new.
Now, I want to find a good home for my old friend. I am selling because I am at a point in my life where I have other cars I want to drive. My dad and I built this car together, and now that he’s gone, I believe it’s time for me to move on and enjoy some of the other cars I want and I only have enough time and storage for one car.
Paint:
Bahama Blue, 1992 Chevy truck color. Paint code 22. Base/clear
Car was originally from Texas and purchased in Florida, so the body is solid. This is s 23 year old driver’s paint job. It is ok for a local car show but is not and award winner. However, the body is solid underneath with all panels that had issues replaced. Car was taken down to metal in 1990. There are multiple stone chips from years of driving, and a few scratches that are not really noticeable to the average person. There is some pitting from the primer on the lower driver’s door, but being it’s on the bottom, it’s not all that noticeable. 2 scratches on the hood about ¾” long. Scuff on back bumper as I hit a wall parking it in the garage years ago. All imperfections have been touched up, but they are there and probably only noticeable to the owner.
Engine:
350cid bored .030 over (355cid)
4 bolt main
1.94 / 1.50 heads, 9.1:1 compression
600cfm Edelbrock 4 barrel w/ manual choke (choke not connected) on an Edelbrock performer RPM intake
Competition Cam .280/.480 (I may be wrong on this spec, it’s been a long time)
Beautiful sounding lope at idle
Moroso high flow fuel pump
Transmission:
TH350
Moderate shift kit, will squeal pretty good going from 1st to 2nd gear
2500 Cone stall convertor
Rear End:
10-bolt limited slip
Richmond 3.90:1 ratio
Exhaust:
Ceramic headers
2 ½” aluminized pipe from collector back
Flowmaster 40 series. No Y pipe. Loud but not illegal or uncomfortably loud.
Performance:
Engine makes 300hp
5200rpm red line
60mph = 3000rpm
Relatively flat power band from 3000-5200rpm
14.1 best ¼” mile time
Extremely responsive oil pressure, 20psi at idle, 60psi under normal driving
I realize this isn’t the fasted thing out there, but 23 years ago when I did it, cars didin’t have this much power.
Wheels/Tires:
17” American Racing Torq Thrust II, PVD chrome plated. 7” wide front, 8” wide rear
Front tires: 215/55R17
Rear Tires: 235/55R17
Chassis:
I installed brand new rear leaf springs 3 years ago with new bushings and shocks. Front shocks and springs in good shape. Frame extenders installed (welded). All brakes in like new condition with very little wear. Calipers and wheel cylinders were new in 1993, as were all brake hoses and rear brake lines. All steering components are in great shape. Steering gear was replaced about 10 years ago to an IROC gear with a quicker ratio. Car goes down the road straight with no vibrations.
Radiator is a 3-core. 160° thermostat. Will run a little warm (190°) on the highway due to the rpm’s but cools right down in town. Has a good working clutch fan.
Interior:
Black interior is in great shape pieced together from OEM part either from Classic Camaro or parts cars. Driver’s seat vinyl was new years ago. All vinyl is soft with no cracks or where marks. Dash, console, and all interior trim pieces are in excellent condition. Arm rests are from a blue interior and painted. Paint has held up for 23 years. Headliner is new as is the package tray cover. I added aux gauges for oil press, volts, and water temp but the idiot lights on the dash still work. Door panels have switches for power locks, but the car does not have them. Door panels were from another car. Windshield wipers do not work.
HVAC:
Heater core is not hooked up and the air cond is long gone. I actually removed the vents so I could change the dash more easily. The fan doesn’t’ work so there is no defroster, either. Never needed any of this with the windows open.
Audio/Speakers:
Radio works but has not been turned on in 15 years. Speakers dry rotted away so I took them out and never put new one in. I have a set of new speaker covers that can be used with new rear 6 x 9 speakers, but the holes are not cut in the new package tray cover. Not a priority as the American V8 makes its own sweet music. The wires are run for the speakers, though.
Glass:
Windshield was new 20 years ago and is in great shape given the little the car gets driven. Water flows right off like it has RainX on it but I never used it. Rear window is in great shape. Side windows show signs of wear from rolling up/down are in good condition. Window cranks work well
Electrical:
All exterior lights work as they should. Interior fan does not work, cigarette lighter works (I think, but I’ve not checked it for years). Dome light works, all interior/dash lights work. Windshield wipers no longer work.
I will be travelling for work leaving Sept 18th and returning Sept 24th and will not be available to transfer the vehicle. Please factor this into your plans to retrieve the car.
