Description for Chevrolet El Camino 1965
Up for sale is a original and rare optioned car. Its a clean numbers matching 1965 that was purchased from the original owner a few years back. The car is a factory regal red/red bench interior car that still has the original drive train. I's a factory stick car with a wide ratio M20 four speed with original shifter and 10 bolt 3:33 open diff. The car was apparently built in the fremont plant and then sold out of Inglewood Chevrolet in the summer of 1965. The cars front license plate still has June 1965 tags on it. The original owner told me that he had ordered the car to come with a 327. When he went to pick up the car two weeks latter he refused the car after seeing 283 badges on it's fenders. Apparently Inglewood Chevrolet offered to hop up the 283 right there at the dealership if he would agree to a lower price because of their mistake in the order. Mr. Thompson came back a week latter and bought the El Camino after the dealer installed some performance parts. When the car was purchased it barely ran and was in need of a rebuild. During the rebuild process I learned that the dealership installed the cam. intake and carb set up off of the 1965 L79 327/350hp onto a low production number 283/220hp. So basically this is a dealership hot-rodded 283 on the 283 4barrel that was already a fairly rare motor for 65. The engine was rebuilt a few years back and has about 5k miles on it. This car has supposedly 54k from the original owner. It has been bored. 040 and the bottom end is stock with a small journal forged crank and rods. I pulled the dealer installed cam and realized it was the L79 piece and it was replaced with an OEM replacement from Crane specs are . 447/. 447and 222/222 @ 50 with 114 lca. The power pack heads were modified with mild port and bowl work. and fitted with 1. 94 intake instead of the factory1. 77s. The heads were also shaved down To give a true 10:1compression ratio to run better with the larger cam. I added roller-tipped rockers under the custom made valve covers with the original Chevrolet script. The Ignition has been upgraded to Summit street/strip box with built in rev limiter and is hidden under the dash and covered by the radio delete plate. The distributor is a factory points unit with MSD guts and custom factory looking ignition wires and coil. When I cleaned up the engine compartment I made sure to to re-do all the dealership chalk marks where I could find them. The original alternator has been beefed up and the front wiring harnesses are new. This car is in fairly good shape for its age. No major dents. no rot and what appears to be mostly factory paint. This car is very original. This is a daily driver with a peppy motor with a few rare options and a cool history. Thanks for looking Bid with confidence. Ask any questions 209 985 0695 Harvey
