Description for Chevrolet Camaro 1968
Up for sale is a beautifully restored 68 SS/RS Big Block Camaro Convertible. I have owned this car for about 7 years and finished most of the restoration about 5 years ago. I kept upgrading and adding new things along the way. Most of the car has either been replaced or restored back to original. I did do some modifications but tried to keep it looking as it may have been when originally sold and driven. I will attempt to list all the new parts but I am sure I will miss some. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me to discuss.Any and all rust was cut out and replaced with new metal. This is NOT a bondo car. The rear quarters were replaced before I purchased the car. They were professionally installed and did look good. I replaced the right side door with a brand new shell. Both front fenders are new along with the front top panel. I replaced the original ornament hood with the cowl hood. My personal preference. The front power disc brakes were done before me. The rear drum brakes have new shoes and springs. The driver side floor pans were replaced by me with new pans. All sheet metal are welded in and seam sealer was used. The trunk pan and rear valance along with the rear panel that holds the tail lights are all new. I did mold in the tail light panel so there are no seams, again a personal preference. The tail lights are all new along with the correct back up lights. The wheels and tires are all new. The rear tires have about 1500 miles on them and the fronts are brand new. I had to downsize the front tires due to fender lip rub on tight turns or big dips. The car has power steering which I installed and came from another car. It should have come with it but as many cars from this era when they failed it was just cheaper to put in a non power steering box. I still have the one that came out of the car. The interior is all new Hounds Tooth seat covers and new foam for all the seats and new carpet with the sound deadening material installed on the floor prior. The door panels and the window mechanisms inside the doors are new because I went with the deluxe door panels. The dash pad is new along with the vents. The entire car was rewired with American Auto Wire complete harness. Not a spliced up nightmare as in most cars of this vintage. I did a custom dash wrinkle finish on the radio panel along with a custom made piece so the stereo is not facing down if just installed. The shifter cover panel is also painted with the same wrinkle finish. Those items could be easily converted back to the wood grain as original but I thought that looked a little cheesy since it is just self stick paper. I contemplated using real wood veneer but never took the time to do it. The steering wheel does have the usual cracks in it but I liked the original look so I put a wrap on it. The hide away headlights are new and upgraded to electric doors that work much better. I used the Detroit Speed RS electric door kit which was very complete and very easy to install. Better yet they work as they should. The engine was rebuilt before me and is bored .30 over. The trans was rebuilt last year and he used the steel speedo drive gear so there will never be an issue like with the cheapChinese plastic ones. I installed a new posi rear in it about 1 1/2 years ago. It has the 3.42 Richmond gear set in it. Has headers and new exhaust and chrome down turn tips. The entire system is welded on. I installed a set of frame connectors to stiffen up thechassis.I installed all new SS brake lines and fuel lines. The fuel tank is new along with the hangers to install it. As you can see from the pictures it has the center console with the correct functioning gauges. The dash pod was refinished and everything works correctly except the clock and they never work. The stereo is kick ass and has a pair of amps and the sub installed in the trunk. Then there are 6 speakers in the car. The antenna is power so goes away when you turn the car off. You can use a flash drive or Ipod or a CD with this stereo. I think you can also use Blue Tooth but I am not positive. I never tried that. The top is new and has the rear glass window option that zips out to lay down. The front bow piece was replaced along with the power top pump and both cylinders. The top works flawlessly. The paint job is beautiful and has absolutely 0 orange peel. Virtually all the SS or Chrome pieces including front and rear bumpers have been replaced with new or reproduction parts. I went with original parts whenever I could get them. The engine compartment is clean as is the frame. The radiator is a new aluminum 4 row. The fan, fan clutch water pump and fan housing are all new. The Holley 3310 750 CFM carb with electric choke has the body powder coated blue to match the car. I just replaced the alternator to a 110 unit with an internal regulator for better performance. I also had it tuned up by the local Chevy Guru who added a kit to the ignition system to give it even more power and now runs even smoother then before. I have receipts for almost everything that was installed on this car including what the previous owner purchased. I also have manuals and a cover that will also go with the car. For those looking the front hood looks like it is raised a little on the sides. That has been adjusted properly and now fits nearly perfect. It was raining today so i did not get a chance to take new pics. I would be happy to take them and send if anyone wants. Just ask!
I am sure I missed a number of things that were either restored or replaced. You will not find a better restored car for what I am asking for anywhere. If you are looking for a ready to drive head turner that will impress anyone at your local cruise night this is it. I urge anyone interested to come see the car. You will not be disappointed. My reserve is very reasonable for what this car is. I would entertain offers but only if they are reasonable. I do have it advertised locally so I reserve the right to end this auction at anytime. I would be happy to discuss with anyone if you send me a contact # and the best time to reach you. Please keep in mind I am not desperate to sell this car. I just don't drive her enough and I do feel she should be driven and enjoyed a lot more. Thanks for looking!
