We've featured some amazing Camaro resto-mods over the past few months. And this 396-powered F2 is the latest in a long line of metal that seems to come in, spend one week being universally admired, and disappear to a new home. By definition, pro-tourers and resto-mods are virtually irresistible because they combine increased performance with proven style. And who doesn't love cruising a classic that mixes the best attributes of Motor City muscle with the purpose-built speed that defines American car culture? As a national award-winning custom that delivers on every level, this sweet Camaro coupe is the kind of car you simply CAN'T ignore. It cruises like a champ, charges like a bull, and oozes the style and class that made second generation F-Bodies the stuff of legend. If you're looking for an impressive muscle car that'll fare well on the road AND at the show, check out this awesome Chevy!

BODYWORK/TRIM

During its thorough reboot, this solid old panther was entirely disassembled and carefully stripped of its dull, original pigment. Once that prep was complete, an incredibly straight fuselage was augmented with a bit of fresh sheetmetal. As that massaged sheetmetal featured better-than-factory alignment, a rich coat of Charcoal Gray 2-stage was detailed with orange pinstripes and a Satin Black top stripe. When that pigment dried, labor-intensive hours were spent buffing a spectacular shine. And today, this handsome Chevy walks a fine line between tastefully modern and traditionally conservative.

General Motors envisioned the F2 Camaro as a working man's Ferrari and, thanks to a better timeframe and bigger budget, effectively addressed many of the complaints enthusiasts had about the F1. Longer, wider, lower to the ground and more aggressive, the second generation was certainly more of a driver's car, and is widely regarded as some of the best iron Detroit ever produced. At the front of this coupe, a stainless-trimmed grille hangs a bright "SS" emblem and broad chrome bumper in front of clear parking lamps, a factory chin spoiler and stainless-trimmed H4 headlights. Behind that grille, a smooth hood founds tinted and stainless-trimmed glass between hidden wipers and body-matched mirrors. At the sides of that hood, a clean fuselage keeps extraneous bits to an absolute minimum, framing factory door handles in straight rocker trim and flush marker lamps. And at the back of that fuselage, a Satin Black valance centers a chrome trunk lock and LED taillights between a low-profile ducktail and second broad bumper.

ENGINE

Check the car's clean, Satin Black engine bay and you'll find a 396 cubic inch Chevrolet big block that ups the 'no replacement for displacement' ante by a .030 overbore. Unlike those homogenized LS motors, which seem to be the only pro-touring builds getting any respect, this Chevy Orange stalwart is a pump gas torque monster that's just as comfortable cruising country roads as it is lining up at stoplights. At the top of the block, a chrome, Chevrolet-branded air cleaner feeds breeze in to a modern Holley 4-barrel. That perfect air/fuel mixture flows in to a familiar Edelbrock intake, which is centered between finned, bowtie-branded valve covers. At the back of that intake, a modern HEI distributor sequences spark through pliable plug wires. Below those wires, ceramic-coated long-tube headers funnel spent gases in to a large-diameter, true-dual exhaust system. At the front of those headers, traditional V-belts spin a rebuilt alternator opposite a chrome-capped power steering pump. Cooling comes courtesy of a lightweight Engineered Cooling Products radiator. And traditional dress-up items, like a chrome dipstick, a chrome thermostat housing and aftermarket fender braces, are present and accounted for.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Take a gander under this cool F-Body and you'll find a fully detailed chassis that mixes new age technology with old school durability. Thoroughly solid floorpans wear a clean layer of Satin Black undercoating. At the center of those floors, a tough Tremec TKO600 5-speed makes good use of a chrome-capped GM 10-bolt. Stopping is a cinch thanks to four power-assisted calipers, which squeeze four vented rotors. Exhaust is handled by a series of aluminized pipes, which swirl spent gases through an H-shaped crossover and chambered mufflers. The aforementioned power steering complements a lowered suspension, which benefits from boxed subframe connectors and heavy duty sway bars. Torque melts the pavement thanks to 3-piece Forged Union wheels, which spin 245/40ZR18 Sumitomo HTRZs in front of 275/40ZR18 Sumitomo HTRZs. And, as you can tell by our high resolution photos, not a detail was missed on this Chevy's fully-sorted undercarriage.

INTERIOR

Open the car's long doors and you'll find a conservative, black interior that's stylish and very livable. There's a quartet of traditional bucket seats, which are wrapped in soft vinyl. In front of those seats, a factory dash hangs rebuilt telemetry over a familiar Delco radio. At the bottom of that dash, a proven Hurst shifter fronts a modern consolette, which rides on fade-free carpet that's protected by color-keyed floor mats. Opposite that shifter, monochromatic door panels are dotted with bright hardware. The driver traces the road through an attractive Lecarra steering wheel. And passengers haul cargo in a fully restored trunk.
