AWARD WINNING 1949 Chevrolet Panel Truck
Here is your chance to own a truly unique and sought after classic Chevrolet ½ ton panel truck. This truck has been subjected to a professional restoration. All work has been performed at our restoration facility using only the finest materials available. Truck has spent its entire life in the semi-arid Colorado climate and as a result this truck was virtually rust free prior the restoration process.
Drive train
Engine, transmission and rear end were sourced from a Pontiac Trans Am . Engine is a 305 that was rebuilt and has less than 3000 miles since truck completion. Original tuned port intake was replaced with an Edelbrock intake and 650cfm vacuum secondary carb. Trans and rear end were inspected and flushed and new fluids installed. Transmission is a 700r4 4 speed automatic with lock up converter. Engine RPM’s at 70 mph are 1900. Rear end is a 3:23 posi with disc brakes and stock Trans Am sway bar installed. Rear end mounted to de-arched leaf springs. Exhaust consists of chrome tri-w headers mounted up to dual Flowmaster mufflers with stainless steel tips. Side pipes are functional units spliced in forward of mufflers.
Suspension
Front suspension was sourced from a Camaro and graphed to original frame from the firewall forward. Stock upper control arms were replaced with tubular units. Over size sway bar was also installed to control body roll. New rotor and calipers also installed. Stock Camaro power steering unit was also used. Rear suspension is leaf spring with sway bar and air assisted shocks to allow ride height adjustment.
Engine Compartment
Radiator was flushed rodded and sealed and has a Spal thermostatically control electric fan. Engine runs a very consistent 180 to 190 degrees. Battery and power brake booster are mounted under cab and on frame to allow the complete shaving of firewall. Engine turned panel now covers firewall. Heater hoses are routed through inner fender panel as well as radiator overflow tank. Original dual train style horns are mounted on underside of hood.
Interior
Entire Interior has been redone starting with dyna mat sound /vibration deadening mat. In addition the sides, roof and firewall has insulation space blanket style insulation padding as well. All doors were also covered with the dyna mat material. Lower rear side panel are filled with expanding blown in insulation. As a result truck is super quiet inside. Original bomber style seats were re-foamed and cover with high grade vinyl as well as the door panels, and front and rear side panel. 57 Nomad interior chrome trim strips integrated into all panels. Headliner was enhanced with polished aluminum support bows. Stock radio opening was filled and radio has been relocated behind hinged dash panel. Stereo is a CD/AM/FM unit with remote control.
Front 6x9 speaker are hidden behind 60’s Impala fresh air vents mounted in kick panel area, rear speaker are 6” units mounted above and to the sides of the rear doors, totally hidden behind the headliner. An 8” sub is mounted under the driver seat and the amp is mounted under the passenger seat. A retractable cup holder is mounted at the lower front of the passenger seat. A custom console was fabricated for extra storage between the seats and an antique fire extinguisher was mounted to the console lid. Steering column is a tilt unit with classic 3 spoke British steering wheel with original horn button installed. Tachometer is mounted in a taillight matching enclosure mounted on top of the dash. Speedometer was upgrade to a 90MPH as well as the temp and oil gages were upgraded to 0-220 degrees and 0-60 psi units. Lap style seat belts also installed. Rear area wood was redone using ash wood stained with medium oak and polyurethane clear coat. Polished stainless steel rails were installed over the wood. 70’s Jaguar gas tank filler cap was been integrated in rear panel area. Wiper motor and heater blower motor are new 12v units. All wiring was replaced using an EZ Wiring 21 circuit unit.
Body
Entire body was soda blasted to bare metal prior to refinishing. Truck is finished in a high quality Valspar Blitz Black single stage catalyzed product. Hood was shaved of emblems and side trim. Lower grille roll pan was added. Rear bumper is a 49 Plymouth that has been narrowed and powder coated to match grille bars. License plate surround is a 1959 Corvette unit modified to fit the ribs of the Plymouth bumper. All glass with the exception of the rear doors is new as well, as is all weather stripping, door felts and fender welting. Interior and exterior door handle and window cranks are new. Turn signal lights were removed from the grille and modern halogen headlights with built in amber LED turn signals were installed. Rear taillights are LED units as well. 1952 doors were used to acquire the vent window style doors used on the later year trucks. Side lower body panel that houses the side pipes are Mustang Eleanor fiberglass units.
Wheels and Tires
Tires are Nitto 450 Extreme Performance 225/50/ 15 fronts and 255/ 50/17 rears, mounted on one off American Racing Slat Flat Specials.
Misc.
Gas tank is 21 gallon unit mounted behind rear axle with stainless steel shield on bottom of tank.
Original running boards and mounting brackets are included in sale if wanted.
