But until then, Chevrolet was determined to keep America's Sports Car fresh and current. That was achieved with a body update for the '61 model run. This included a new back end that foreshadowed the 2nd generation Corvette that was due to be introduced in '63 and a cleaner front grille that was missing its teeth from previous years. The result ended up being a perfect contrast of old and new that seamlessly blended elements of the '58-'60 Corvette with the new back end of the '61. This was to be the last year of the 283ci engine and the last year for dual carbs on a small block Corvette. It was also the last year to get a contrasting color on the side coves, so '61 is definitely a milestone year for Corvette.
The '61 presented here offers a great opportunity for someone looking for a nice, driver quality Corvette. Although, it was frame on restored several years ago, and is still in very nice condition, it could use a bit of T.L.C. to get it back to its former glory. It's equipped with a dual quad 270hp engine, 4-spd transmission, factory Wonderbar radio and period correct wide whitewall tires (the last year for those, as well). But, what really sets this '61 apart from the rest is its unique color combination of Fawn Beige with a matching Fawn interior. This color was only offered in '61 and '62 and it complements the lines of the car beautifully! As the values of these solid axles continue to climb, their owners tend to go all out and completely restored them, thus ending up with a stunning, but very expensive example. Here is a car that you can enjoy without having to load it onto the back of a trailer. And little by little, fix her up!
