Description for Chevrolet Other Pickups 1958
Up for auction is an awesome example of old school shop truck style and the opportunity to enjoy the fun associated with driving a truly remarkable piece of history. This old truck originally was a 283/4speed truck and still retains the original 4 speed (granny low gears and all) and the original rear axle and suspension. As hard as it is to imagine with all the "old skool" trucks being put onto a brand new high dollar suspension that you see on the TV build and sell shows. this isn't really how the old school hot rod builders did it back when it was done the way this one is built. This one has a built 350 small block with big lumpy cam (292 duration and 488 lift). newer 305 closed chamber heads to work with unleaded gas and build compression. bored . 030 and flat top pistons. Holley contender intake manifold. 650 Holley dual line double pumper. headers. HEI distributer and short "purple horny" glass pack mufflers. Needless to say. it is loud. powerful. and if you are looking for gas mileage. do a search for "Honda or Toyota" and we are done here. If not. and you want to have a truck that is a blast to drive. and you can handle it. read on. I lowered the truck significantly by removing a couple of leafs in the front and 4 in the rear and achieved the stance you see here. I wanted the old shop truck look. so I used 4wd blazer wheels and painted them black. and then welded the tabs on to allow the use of the original hubcaps with their patina. I left the patina and rust as it was (you can fix it if you want pretty and new). and have since the pics were taken shot it with a complete coat of clear coat to lock in the current state. Again. you can change what you want. this is the look I was going for. For traction I added old school Lakewood style traction bars. and wide dirt track radial tires in the rear. 255/60/15 rear and 235/70/15 front. The glass is all in good shape. there is one small rock chip in the front. but not an issue for this owner. All windows roll up and down. On the interior I added a newer seat (and you can also have the original to re-upholster) and "Dickies" brand material on the seat protector and headliner/door panels. There is a cd player hidden in the glove box out of sight. and I added an 8 track player that actually works (tapes included for the fun of authentic southern rock memories). I cut out the old rotten bed and added new angle iron rails to raise the bed floor and then added new boards for the floor. It could use a new coat of paint on the wood. the elements have caused the clear to peal. but easy to fix. This truck is fun to own. drive around for attention. and to just plain show off to the guys around the shop. I hate to sell it. but it is done what I wanted it to do and has been replaced with a new project. so time to go and move on to the next one. Good luck and bid to win.
