Description for Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 1955
Here at Streetside Classics, our favorite cars are the ones that neatly straddle the line between show car and vehicles you can actually drive. The best cars are those that are fully updated mechanically, yet look so spectacular that it's hard to believe they've been driven. This 1955 Chevy 210 2-door post coupe is such a vehicle, with heart-stopping good looks and a totally streetable attitude. There are a lot of 1955 Chevys out there, that's true. It's a popular car, both then and now, and the reasons folks fall in love with them are obvious. But to rise to the top, to have a car that can be driven and enjoyed, while delivering the kind of looks that makes kids and grown men stop in their tracks as it drives by, well, that's not as easy as it sounds. So you'll definitely appreciate this car's beautiful charcoal gray paint scheme (a Land Rover color called Bonitti Gray), which is a bit modern, but is subtle enough that it lets the bodywork do the talking. The finish is show-quality all the way, with excellent gaps and enough time invested in the bodywork to make it really stand out from lesser cars. Most of the trim has been shaved, which results in a car that still instantly identifiable but looks clean, sleek, and purposeful in the flesh. There's another sizeable chunk of change invested in getting the remaining chrome refinished, but the results were definitely worth it, as it sparkles like jewelry on this 210 and the overall look delivers in a big way.The interior is wonderfully subtle, and the outstanding execution and neat details make it an excellent place to spend some time. The original seats are still in place and wrapped in period-style upholstery that looks exactly right, and it'll leave onlookers wondering if it's OEM. The dash was fully restored, with the original speedometer joined by a row of Auto Meter auxiliary dials set into the dash and a monster tach up top. A custom center stack was fabbed up, including the head unit for the AM/FM/CD stereo and the A/C controls. That's a Hurst 4-speed down on the floor, and it suggests there's more to this 210 than meets the eye, but overall it nails the performance look with an OEM twist. The trunk is finished with a proper rubber mat, and you'll note that an Optima battery was tucked in to free up some space up front. That's a thundering 454 cubic inch V8 and it's a neat fit in the '55 engine bay. Obviously there was an extraordinary amount of time and effort dedicated to the engine bay, showcasing a hardcore look highlighted by the black Chevrolet valve covers and matching side panels. Inside it's got a forged 427 crank and H-beam rods, Ross pistons, and a Milodon gear drive to make it sound nasty. GM supplied some square port heads and there's a Weiand Stealth intake and a big Holley up top. Vintage Air supplied the entire serpentine belt drive system for the accessories, which look clean and modern, and there's a giant radiator up front. The aforementioned 4-speed manual transmission is a Muncie wide-ratio unit that spins a Ford 9-inch rear end. The chassis is heavily reinforced and uses custom front A-arms, coil-overs, rack-and-pinion steering, and 4-wheel Wilwood disc brakes, plus trailing arms and a Panhard rod for the rear axle. The stance is just right and those custom Torque Thrust wheels and 225/50/17 front and 275/50/17 rear Nitto performance radials fit perfectly. With a huge pile of cash invested in the build, this spectacular car is still extremely fresh. Drive or show, it's up to you, and this 210 excels at both. Call today!
