Description for Chevrolet C-10 1964
Up for sale is this completely custom 1964 Chevrolet C-10. This truck started in Central Oregon as a landscape services vehicle. Sometime in life it received a metallic green paint job and I would like to personally thank whoever did it because it faded, chipped and peeled in all the right places! With a polished finish (that's right, no clearcoat) this truck gets attention wherever it goes.No real rust to speak of, just the small hole in the drivers fender, which I left unrepaired. It was torn down to nothing with the idea to make it the most bada** 64 longbed around; I think we did it. The rear frame is sectioned and raised 9" to accommodate airbags. We used the stock frame which gives it a very clean look. The Blazer gas tank was moved to the back and is housed next to the 5 gallon air tank. The front crossmember is "pancaked" 1.5 inches. Upper arms relieved to curtail joint bind and the lowers are pocketed to house the bags. The center frame support was cut and plated, trailing arms flipped so we could lay frame when the truck is completely aired out. The rearend is out of a 71 C-1, has a 3.08:1 gear ratio and held in place with a adjustable heim jointed panhard bar. All whole new gearset was used when replaced. The front suspension is also 71, full power disk brakes with steel braided lines throughout.
Underhoo, fenders are relieved, stock hinges removed to make way for the tires. We cut away just enough so there is still fender wells and replaced the hinges with the hydraulic Porterbuilt variety. Engine is a mildly built 350 from a Chevy Impala and mated to a TH350 transmission. Both have been gone through and meticulously maintained. Edelbrock accents as well as a 600 CFM electric choke carb sits up top. The full 3" Flowmaster exhaust sounds mean as it exits nicely out the bedsides. As stated, power brakes with booster as well as power steering have been added to the truck. We didn't do a rack so this thing still turns great! The A/C pump mounted to the motor actually supplies the air tank which is used for the suspension; that means NO NOISY COMPRESSORS! The one thing I always hated about air ride equipped vehicles was the loud compressors, can't hear this one and it fills the tank to 200 psi in about 90 seconds from empty. It has a oiler/separator system we devised so we could use a much less expensive and easily mounted unit (the tank also supplies two train horns mounted all stealth like under the bed!). The air control is completely manual, no electric switches, just an ingeniously simple Little Larry's valve body.
The bed houses a full size Delta truck box mounted to the frame. A custom elevated bed made from 1" angle was put in place to hold the tongue and groove cedar. It's all attached from the bottom, so no visible fasteners. The locking gas door is flushed in and there is a nice big access door in the top so you can get to the tank.
The interior was gutted and cleaned but maintains a very stock feel. The seat is from a 65 c-10, recovered. Carpet was added for insulation purposes. Air gauges were mounted within the stock cluster and look perfect. The heater box was modified to fit with the Porterbuilt hinges and works great as do the wipers. A stereo was installed in the glove box, speakers in the stock location. The shifter is a Lokar, 23" tall with push button accuracy.
The whole truck rides on 15" Supremes wrapped in pinner whitewalls. This thing drives like a dream. I never would have imagined it would, but it is awesome. On that note, it does get used. This truck is not a trailer queen, it frequently gets driven out of state from Bend, Oregon. I recently drove it to Vegas for a show, about 1800 miles. It was built to drive and has been getting just that over the last 3 years.
I am only selling this truck because it's done. I have enjoyed it, still do. I am someone that needs change so... off to a different project.
