Description for Chevrolet Other Pickups 1937
How awesome would it be if delivery trucks today looked as good as this 1937 Chevrolet 3-window pickup truck? Imagine the local delivery guy pulling up in something like this, how much better would the roadways of America be? The fact that the original shape still looks great after all these years means that this awesome rod was already hitting a lot of high notes well before the work even started. There's obviously a great deal of time and money wrapped up in this gorgeous pickup truck, because it wasn't until fairly recently that these trucks were anything but an interesting footnote in automotive history. But for a unique hauler for people or gear, there are few finer than this. The bright paint is two-stage urethane from PPG and looks spectacular on the vintage curves, giving it both a traditional and a custom look. Bodywork is quite impressive, with both the doors and the side-opening hood fitting nicely and all that sheetmetal carefully blocked so that the finish would be even and straight. The nose has a custom grille insert that gives it a unique look, and all the bright trim was shaved to clean things up. There's a custom rear roll pan in back, along with a padded tilt-up bed cover, and you'll find that it's still usable as a truck with the fully protected bed. This hauler is strictly a 2-seater, just like when it was new, although the supportive leather upholstery is definitely a big upgrade over the factory vinyl bench. The door panels are custom pieces with modern hardware, custom arm rests, and speakers for the stereo, and since they open suicide style, seat belts are a great addition. Vintage Air A/C was added and fitted to a custom panel below the dash, and for entertainment there's a JVC AM/FM/CD stereo. The dash was smoothed and filled so they could install the simple but effective VDO gauges, giving the dash a clean, uncluttered look. Other features and upgrades include power windows and locks, a tilt steering column, custom floor mats, and remote door poppers. The workmanship is impressive, and this is a truck you could easily drive coast-to-coast without an issue. The drivetrain breaks no new ground, but for reliability and performance that will keep things entertaining, there are few better choices than a fuel-injected LS1 V8. Tucked under a custom-made engine cover that looks very sanitary, the Corvette-based aluminum V8 delivers big power and light weight, making this pickup a tidy handler, too. A few dress-up parts make it look shiny, but it seems that the real goal was to achieve an OEM look, and in that regard they've succeeded. Note the smoothed firewall, the big radiator with accustom shroud, and wiring and plumbing that was neatly tucked out of sight. A 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt rear end make for pleasant high-speed cruising, and with block-hugging custom shorty headers and a smooth-sounding stainless steel exhaust system, it sounds exactly right. The front suspension is a Mustang II setup with rack-and-pinion steering and out back you have trailing arms and coil springs. Four-wheel discs are another smart upgrade, and they live behind chrome Torque Thrust wheels wearing 215/60/15 front and 255/60/15 rear BFGoodrich radials.A gorgeous truck that is built right and runs beautifully, and there's no way you could duplicate it for the asking price, even if you could find another one.
