Description for Chevrolet El Camino 1965

This is a perfect opportunity to buy a gasser project with the hard work completed. The car needs very little to be finished. Recently a Willys Coupe I’ve been watching literally since 1998 came available. I had the cash so I bought it. It is the only reason why I’m selling this project. It is not a fire sale. About 5 years ago I was dreaming of building a gasser with a different twist. I wanted a pre-66 car. and I wanted something different. I decided to either buy a ranchero or an elcamino. I found this El camino in Commerce. CA The car was a lifelong black plate California car before I had it shipped East. The car has been here in MA. garaged and under construction since 9/5/12. This El camino is a true factory ordered 12 bolt. 4 speed. 327 car. In California. the previous owner has the car painted with a base coat/clear coat willow green color (original to the car) he also has the Muncie M21 clutch rebuilt replacing the cluster. 2nd. 3rd. and reverse gears in 2009 for $1. 21. 00. In addition. he had the bumpers and hood spear re-chromed (with copper). for $445. 00. new weather stripping. new carpet. new windshield. and new headliner installed. I bought the car because it had no rust or rot on it. Being from Massachusetts. I am familiar with rust and rot and did not want to bother with a car like that again. This car is incredibly clean. Once I took delivery of the car. I drove it around for a weekend (putting the car in my name with a Massachusetts Title – a big deal in this state) and I loaded the car on a flatbed and drove down to New Jersey for Rich (of Radir wheels) to properly convert the car from coil spring front end to a dropped axle. leaf spring (gasser style) front end. I had put dropped axles in model A’s before. but never converted a coil spring car over. Besides. I planned on running a 427 bracket racing the car. so I wanted it done right. Rich upgraded the single pot master cylinder to a dual reservoir MC with new brake lines. installed a ’64 Chevrolet CK10 dropped axle (drilled out) on springs designed to hold a big block. Disc brakes. Steering dampner put in as part of the package. A very professional job done real well (“magazine quality”). This work cost $5. 00. 00. I then had Rich put a set of Radir tri-ribs with radir cheater slicks and 5. 50 firestone front runners on the car before I trailered the car back to MA (tires and wheel cost me 2. 99. 00). When I got the car back home. I took out the engine out (not original to the car) and sold it to a friend. My plan was to go with a big block and since this wasn’t a matching number car. it didn’t matter much to me. I removed the drive shaft and Muncie transmission. (I was going to go through this and upgrade the clutch and put on a scatter shield but never got to it --- the aluminum housing around the clutch had been “kaboomed” before and will be included. but not installed. I took out the drive shaft and rear end. I then has a local shop (www. mitchelldifferential. com ) go through the rear end. The rear-end was in exceptional shape and probably never saw snow or rain. They installed a detroit locker (35 spline – 3:55 gears ). installed a Timken pinion bearing and seal overhaul kit. carrier bearing set. Yukon forged pinion yoke. differential cover with retainers. pair of custom axles . bearing studs and retainer plates. and install new ford 9” axle bearing O. D. housing ends getting rid of the “C clip” issue. At the end of the day. all of this work cost me 2. 59. 00. The rear end was bead blasted. primed and painted. I then re-installed the rear-end using brand new QA1 lower and upper adjustable trailing arms before the floor pan and frame was cleaned. The floors and frame and other chassis components were COVERED in the coating GM used to blast on the bottoms of A body cars. Over the years. this coating absorbed all sorts of sand and dirt. I cleaned this off entirely. This was a total pain but. needed to be done. The floor pans and frame were then coated with the three stage process KYB satin paint. The seat I had reupholstered and covered and stitched with a beautiful diamond pleat design by a friend of mine that has done work on two of my other cars and a boat. He does super work. This was 1. 00. 00 the door panels are recent and there is an aftermarket radio / tape player that is not hooked up. Also included is a black Tonneau cover (never installed) that goes between the chrome in the bed. I will sell the car with e brake working for transport reasons. fender wells. radiator. transmission. gas tank (was going to run a fuel cell with battery box located in bed under tonneau cover). and other odds and ends will be located in the bed for transport. Like I said. this is an excellent opportunity to buy a great start of a project. and you can make it “yours”. As you can imagine. no one has seen this car. but. when it is done. it will draw crowds. Very unique. I was planning on keeping this car for the duration and haven’t cut any corners. This is truly a rare opportunity. No rust. black plate car. Plates and all receipts will be included. Please note this car does not run and drive. It doesn’t include a motor. but. buyer has option to buy a “broken in” ZZ427 crate motor (with Dyno sheet at 486 hp at 5700 rpms) for $9. 00. 00 ---- I have receipt for this too from Pace Performance). Engine is complete from carb to oil pan. I have title in hand. 1. 00. 00 deposit required after auction with balance paid before car leaves my possession. I can always help with transport in New England for gas money. Guys. this truly is a great opportunity to buy a real nice project car with no corners cut. Serious bidders only. Im selling at a loss. Like I said. If I didn’t just buy a willys I’ve been lusting over for close to 20 years. this car wouldn’t be going anywhere. I don’t see the need to have two big block straight axle cars. Car is located in Norfolk MA (2 miles from Patriots / Gillette stadium). I can pickup any prospective buyers at logan airport in boston or at TF green in Providence RI. This car will not disapoint. Reserve is set about 10. 00 less than what I have into her).
