Description for Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 1957
It's beyond question among the most iconic of all American-made cars: the '57 Chevy. And not just any '57 Chevy, but the Bel Air, Chevy's top of the line flagship of the era. Immortalized in movies and song, this 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air sets the bar of expectations awfully high - and yet it sails over it effortlessly.
With just 845 miles having passed since its restoration, this Bel Air positively glows with vitality. Its stellar turquoise paint job, a terrific choice for this model, and all the bright work from front to back is very sharp. As strongly linked with American car culture as the '57 is, it's hard to believe that Chevy's original intention was to come out with an entirely new look that year, but plans were delayed and the folks behind the Blue Bowtie set about making changes to the existing design - hitting an undisputed home run in the process. The updates they decided on, namely a more aggressive front grille and bumper, as well as more pronounced tail fins with a fan-shaped chrome piece gracing the quarter panels in back, are illustrated in exemplary fashion on this '57 via its impressively clean chrome and badging. Chevy also altered the suspension to bring the car closer to the road and the look you'll see here is without a doubt very much in keeping with their intent.
An awe-inspiring interior awaits inside. The black vinyl bench seats in front and back show no perceptible wear and sport a proper tuck and roll look across their surfaces. There's a lot of room inside, which is a great thing, because there'll be no shortage of exuberant passengers as you take this beauty out on the road to show her off. The craftsmanship is evident wherever you look - including a nice, tight headliner above and very well-fitted door panels on both sides. Mirroring a styling cue from the exterior, a continuous stretch of chrome trim runs across the dash area, housing an AM/FM radio with a very era-appropriate look and an analog clock, as well as gold-colored "Bel Air" lettering in script in its immediate center. Down below in the toe box, the set of billet pedals are a great addition and blend in perfectly with their surroundings. In back, the spacious trunk area is all tidied up, lined with a black rubber mat and a full-sized spare tire securely moored, showing a lot of tread and ready for service should the unexpected happen.
There's plenty of "awesome" under the hood, as well. Bel Airs were prized from the start for their spacious engine bays, capable of housing pretty much any big block manufactured during that era. A Chevy 383 cubic inch stroker sits very comfortably inside here, sporting a set of aluminum heads and capable of churning out a full 450 horsepower. A Fast Fuel EFI system replaces the customary carb, adding an element of modern technology, as well as self-tuning capability. The 383 is paired with a 4 speed manual transmission, and with power steering, power brakes and a Hurst shifter on the floor within very easy reach, this Bel Air will be an absolute blast to drive! This folkloric piece of American automotive history sits with a level stance on a set of 17" Cragar rims, wrapped in Cooper GLS touring radials.
