Description for Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 1955
This 1955 Chevrolet 150 is instantly recognizable as a tribute to the hero car in Two Lane Blacktop. But take some time to dig beyond all the correct features of this iconic movie car homage. Because what you'll find is a full custom build that not only has a 1,000 horsepower V8, but also it's lighter, stronger, and all-around more impressive than Hollywood ever imagined. Two Lane Blacktop made us all fear primer grey on the streets. The Chevy in... that movie was so functional and subtle that there wasn't any time or bother to give it a cherry red metallic or a ton of heavy chrome. So, that car never had a Hollywood makeover, which makes the movie seem real... and it's also why it's so rare to find a tribute done so correctly as this one. It has the front bumper delete, locking pins, and a set of Torq Thrust wheels that are so wide in the back, they look like they can barely contain the power. Not only are the windows the correct lightweight polycarbonate, but the whole body is fiberglass with aluminum mounts - so James Taylor's character would have certainly approved of the huge weight savings. But more than just functional, the car is truly a character in Two Lane Blacktop, and you know it from the moment Dennis Wilson lifts off the lightweight trunk in one piece. So of course, this tribute has the correct trunk. And the one-piece front-end with full forward tilt is just as iconic. One look inside, and you instantly see how serious this one is about being a real blacktop dominator. The full roll cage, lightweight door panels, and classic racing buckets with full racing harnesses tell you this Chevy wants to get down to business. Plus, the removable steering wheel and Art Carr fail-safe shifter are true professional pieces. But don't think that the investment in this classic Chevy was only about vintage performance pieces. The CompuShift electronic controller is a great addition for modern intelligent shifting. And have you seen your gauges yet? The Motec C127 display is a high-resolution screen that not only greets you with a tire-burning image of the Two Lane Blacktop car, but also it offers a custom interface for all your vital info. And we know your favorite part of this custom build will be under the hood. Dennis Wilson wishes he has something as monstrous as this fuel-injected 555 cubic-inch big block V8 with Whipple 8.3L twin screw supercharger boldly sitting on top. Of course, a motor this wicked needs to be ready for battle. That's why it was fortified and enhanced with T&D shaft mount rockers, AEM Infinity management system, Enderle injection, fabricated aluminum valve covers, SS braided fuel lines, and a giant C&R aluminum radiator & transmission cooler to keep it all running right. And the headers add power as they feed the thunderous Borla side pipe exhaust. It's a professional-built package that has been tested for approximately 1,000 horsepower at the rear wheels. Oh yes, this is the top dog! And you know that something this powerful needs the right support. That's why you can see the extra bracing in the engine bay that directly connects to the custom chassis. Plus, the controls on the 4L80E four-speed keeps it in the powerband when you need it, but it also makes it easy to settle into more everyday operations on the way to the racetrack. As you look at the undercarriage photos, you're going to recognize all the best stout components. This includes, QA1 R-series shocks (single adjustment front, dual rear), Ford 9-inch rear, traction bars, racing fuel cell over the rear wheels, and Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes. There is so much more to go over on this full custom build, so please call for all the details. This is an amazing tribute to an iconic film that has been enhanced to blow the doors off of even that legend. So don't let this one-of-a-kind slip away.
