Description for Chevrolet Corvette 1970
There's a Corvette for every enthusiast, so if you're the kind of guy who prizes originality, performance, and an awesome history, perhaps this 1970 Chevrolet Corvette will talk to you. With just three owners, two of which were GM engineers, it's a highly original, unmolested survivor that lives up to the very best idea of the term. If you want one that was very much the way it was in 1970, this one gets it exactly right. It shows just... 48,991 miles and there's no question that's an authentic reading. The car is heavily documented, including a signed letter from the second owner who kept the car for a remarkable 41 years. The first owner, a GM engineer, had it only six months when a new child forced him to sell it back to the dealership. Shortly thereafter, the second owner, also a GM engineer, took it home. For 19 of those 41 years, the car was in protected storage, and today presents as a clean survivor that could serve as a guide for how these cars were really built. The bonding strips are still quite visible, as are the nose cone rivets, so you know the code 979 Bridgehampton Blue paint is original. Yes, there's a bit of fading, some checking and crazing in the usual locations, but in our opinion, it would be a crime to restore this car and turn it into "just another old Corvette." This one has history and it shows! The chrome is still shiny, the gaps are just the way the assembly line in St. Louis did it, and there's an in tangible rightness to a car that hasn't been blown apart for a restoration. This car nails it. Code 403 means black leather, and the all-original interior is in spectacular condition. Sure, there are a few creases on the leather, but somehow that makes it more inviting and there are no splits, tears, or worn spots on the seats themselves. Nice carpets have been protected with mats for most of their lives and the door panels feature bright wood appliques. The only notable modification is an AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit, but the original radio is included with the car. Everything works except the oil pressure gauge, but a replacement is also part of the deal. Even the clock and fiber optics work! A 4-speed shifter is a great addition for performance and factory A/C (upgraded to R134a refrigerant) is a welcome addition for regular driving. Glance in the storage area and you'll also find original T-top bags and the original steel valve covers. The numbers-matching 350 cubic inch V8 runs superbly. Obviously it has never been out of the car and it remains quite stock save for the finned valve covers. Everything but the carburetor is original to the car and the numbers bear this out (photos are included of ever relevant number). With 300 horsepower on tap, it's a joy to drive and you'll never feel that you should have bought a big block. The clutch is smooth, the shifter snaps through the gears, and with comfortable highway-friendly gears out back, this is a car designed to travel vast distances without effort. You can see just how autunitic this car is by glancing underneath, where the factory coatings and hardware are still in place, although we're guessing the exhaust might have been replaced at one time. 15-inch Rally wheels were standard equipment, with these wearing a set of right-sized 225/70/15 BFGoodrich radials. With heavy documentation including a dealer invoice, Protect-O-Plate, maintenance records, title history, and manuals, this is an affordable Corvette that can also be considered "investment grade."
