Description for Chevrolet Corvette 1965
L88's Predecessor1965 L78 Stingray Racer
The REAL DEAL! Recently confirmed by NCRS judge of its "396 big block"L78 authenticity. He also confirmed the very rare Options/non options, 456 gears, and the block being a L78 big block NOM. A real garage find (a say this tongue in cheek) as my car has never been registered in any of the Corvette registries, Never been in any of the Corvette clubs, Never been to any car shows and driven very little since owned. Never been out of the garage much since 1986. The NCRSjudge was very surprised andexcited to see this 1965 rare build big block racer did exist and is unknown in the corvette circles. I was told by owner in 1987 that the car originally started out as a drag car. I have pictures in its race form before 2004 restore.

New info on the motor. This was written by a NCRS judge who came down and went over my car as well as the motor:
"Short block 3855962
The short block is from a 1966 Chevelle 375HP, 4 bolt main. The stamping I read “EG”, Very light-barely able to read correctly - I might be wrong on the “G”).
The vin on the engine, read correctly, is 6 “Z” 1 4 8 ***(Z = Fremont CA plant) and 1966 Chevelle sequence # 48,XXX. It is the same short block as the L78 in the Corvette
but the date is incorrect, cast Feb 26, 1966, a year too late"
Note: The hardtop itself is need of a little overhauling. Very usable but needs a little work.
