Description for Chevrolet Other Pickups 1970
Very cool, nicely patina'd, largely stock andoriginal (other than several discreet upgrades to improve drivability), one family owned (48 years!), good running and driving, 1970 Chevrolet Custom 20 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup truck. It has spent it's life as a ranch truck in Southeastern Idaho and was owned by a relative of my daughter-in-law.The running gear is in great condition with a small-block 350 V8 (new fuel pump, new battery, rebuilt carb), SM465 4 speed manual transmission, New Process 205 gear-driven transfer case, Dana 44 front axle with locking hubs and a super-sturdy Eaton HO52 rear differential with optional Detroit 'No-Spin" Locker. This is a Holy Grail running gear combo and it all works great other than some slop in the external transfer case linkage. The upgrades I referred to are an HEI electronic ignition and a later front axle with disc brakes and brand new Monroe Gas Magnum shocks. Currently the manual brakes are weak (I'm trying to dial in the new master cylinder and proportioning valve but haven't got it right yet). However I'm including a vacuum brake booster with linkage if you want to upgrade to power brakes. It came from the factory with power steering so power brakes would be a nice match.
The interior is still in pretty good condition. The dash is all stock and original with no cutting or butchery of any kind. All original switches and knobs are still in place. The bolt-in dashpad is beyond repair but easily replaced. All gauges work as do wipers and exterior lights. I'm including a matching HVAC 3 lever switch cluster to replace the original which is broken. The roof has a small hole where a spotlight was once installed; it's been sealed up. The floorboards have typical rust and in creative rancher fashion small wooden boards were placed over the holes and the factory vinylflooring reinstalled. I'd just leave it as is but replacement panelsare readily available in the aftermarket if you choose to go that route. All glass is good but the door window regulatorsneed lubrication because they are hard to roll up and down.
The exterior has a great patina that only 48 years of Mother Nature could create. It has average rust in the rockers and rear cab corners but nothing that either can't be fixed (patch panels are readily available in the aftermarket) or just left alone. Paint is all original. Left frontfender was replaced at some point with a fender of matchingcolor and patina from a C30. I am including all the badge trim pieces from the original fender. And it once had dual saddle tanks installed. They are long gone but some hardware is still there if you want to reinstall a pair. Front tires are really good and the rears still have a lot of life left.
This is just an awesome truck! It's almost all stock and original with great bones and it runs and drives really well. It's totally a daily driver with some brake work (hopefully I'll have them dialed in by auction end). The body issues are easily repairable but I really hope it ends up with someone who will preserve the great patina and simply use and enjoy it as is. Cool, vintage pickup trucks like this can be restored over and over but are only original once. Just my two cents.
