Description for Chevrolet C-10 1963
This is a very nice, restored 1963 Chevrolet short bed pickup. Fresh paint. Interior is cosmetically restored. Rebuilt engine and drive train. Rare to find a first generation C series with a 454 big block engine. It requires money and mechanical experience to properly install the 454 in this engine bay, and to mate a Turbo 400 transmission to the engine. This is a great opportunity to own an investment grade truck at a reasonable price.
Celebrating 100 years of Chevy truck history in 2018, the American auto manufacturer has produced over 85 million trucks in the past century. Haggerty Insurance Vehicle Rating has proclaimed that vintage trucks are now dominating the collector car market. They also added that of the trucks, the Chevy C/K is now the hottest vehicle on the collector car market. Truck Trend Network announced that the Chevrolet C/K pickup has achieved icon status. With price guides predicting a large upswing in value, this is an opportunity to get in on the early stages of the upward curve.
In 1960 the most popular classic truck in history, the Chevy C/K line, was introduced. The first generation of the C series, 1960-1966, will go down in history as the first truck to expand the market to recreational and every day commuter use. The development of this series also led to the launch of the second generation “Glamour Trucks.”
The transformation, beginning in 1960, was revolutionary.
Most significant of these were a drop-center ladder frame, allowing the cab to sit lower, and independent front suspension, giving an almost car-like ride in a truck.
The 1963 edition advanced even further. 1963 was the first year for coil springs under the front suspension as opposed to the torsion-arm setup in the earlier models. The suspension offered a softer ride, longer life, and extended tire wear. This year provided many mechanical improvements, including the introduction of the new design short stroke 230 six cylinder as standard. A new grille was designed. This is the only year in the series with round headlight bezels. Also the last year for the wrap around windshield.
The truck has been freshly refinished in Hot Rod Black semi gloss. This is not a cheap coat of primer. This is a complete paint job, Paint is uniform, and gives the truck a great retro look. Grille, headlight bezels, and front bumper are also blacked out. Fleetside short bed. Dual outside mirrors. New wrap around windshield. This is the last year for the wrap around windshield. Side and rear glass are original. In good shape, one small blemish on bottom of driver’s window. New vent windows. Restored vintage six lug outlaw wheels. New tires. Fuel tank has been moved to rear for safety reasons. Custom fabricated filler tube mounted in rear of bed for easy access. Wooden bed with outdoor carpeting. All lights and signals work.
The heart of this classic truck is the 454 Cu. In. engine. This is primarily a stock big block with some upgraded components added on. It is no easy job to professionally install a 454 Cu. In. engine in a restricted compartment. Special block hugger headers were used for the exhaust. Motor and transmission mounts were custom fabricated. The transmission tunnel in the firewall and floor had to be fabricated. Driveshaft was custom fabricated to bolt up to the factory differential. These modifications, along with smoothing the firewall, allowed the engine and transmission to sit in what appears to be a stock location, as if installation was done at the factory.
Rebuilt 454 Cu. In. engine. Edelbrock Competition Series four barrel carburetor. Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake manifold, painted orange to appear stock. Stock hydraulic cam and lifters. Headers connect to new dual exhaust with Thrush style oval mufflers. Delco distributor. Recored Harrison radiator. Rebuilt Turbo 400 automatic transmission. Factory ten bolt rear differential. Power steering. Manual brakes. New fuel tank and lines.
Interior was cosmetically restored. Bench seat. The black door panels and dash have been accented in red. New wiring harness. Auto Meter Classic series speedometer, odometer, fuel, volts, water temp, and oil pressure gauges. Gauges have green back lighting, and speedometer has red back lighting. Column shift. Tilt steering column. Kenwood stereo with speaker box behind the seat.
