Description for Chevrolet Suburban 1947
This suburban project has a good street rod start. I have done no work on this vehicle so I can only tell you what I see. The front suspension has been sub-framed with an early Camaro or Nova subframe. The steering gear box is behind the front cross member, making for no interference with the radiator or support. It has a new Performance Rod and Custom radiator, and 350 motor, and 700R4 transmission. The rear end is 10 bolt GM out of a Camaro I believe I know nothing about the engine in terms of mileage. I was told by the person I bought it from that the transmission was taking from a truck that was driven to his house to be removed and put in the suburban. The rear suspension has leaf springs that are probably Camaro as well. Rear shock mounts were made but they were not well done and will have to be redone. The truck runs and it was driven on the trailer. It has a new wiring harness, a GM tilt column, GM brake booster and master cylinder. Over the years the body has been patched in the lower quarters, rear wheel wells, and rear tailpan. I also see patches on the inner wheel wells. At some point the rear fenders where molded to the body with filler. The only thing I have done to the vehicle is dig out the filler from the driver rear fender and sand behind the drivers door. I wanted to see the condition the metal underneath. I have not removed the fender. From what I see so far I don't think there is any reason both sides couldn't be dug out. Or if you like the molded in fender look just refill the section I removed. The underside front of the hood has some rust. The rear doors and barn door style. Th driver side rear door has some rust spots in it.The truck comes with all the garnish moldings, all the old glass for patterns, '39 Chevy car LED tail lights, later model GM bucket seats in the front, and a matching bench in the middle. The truck has seen some rust over the years and the replacement panels that were done are of the homemade variety. A person could leave them and drive it or it would be a good starting point for a full resto. Classic Parts now makes many of the pieces you would need to replace the quarters are rear cab corners if you choose to. The firewall has has a smooth piece of sheet metal welded over it. The front floor pans were also replaced with heavy sheet metal. Personally I was going to put a street rod style firewall and floor in the truck but a person could make what's there easily work and run the truck as is. The rear floor boards, which were wood from the factory have simple chipboard material laying on a framework of square tubing that was created at some point. The frame has been boxed, but again it was a pretty armature job. Thankfully the inset the plates so a guy could just box flush with the edge over it and really make it look better.
In general, the truck has some rough edges but has tons of potential. The body has had some rust over the years, but it's still solid enough that a person could really make something nice with it. The repairs that have been done so far aren't professional, but a guy could easily shore up a few things and run as is. These old suburbans are doing nothing but getting more popular and going up in value. I'm pricing this one where a person could get into right. I have a clear Missouri title in my name.
