Up for auction is a 1952 Chevy 4400. This truck has spent its entire life in the state of Georgia and it is all original sheet metal including cab corners. There is very little rust on the truck and it has always been a running and driving truck. It has spent most of its life parked under a pole barn when not in use. The truck was painted several years ago, and the paint still looks great as you can see in the pictures below.
The motor is a 216ci Stovebolt Six (the cast-iron wonder) and most likely the engine that came in the truck. The engine number is KCA 8095 7. The KCA number is correct for and only applied to 1952 model 4000 series pickups. The engine cranks right and runs great. It does have a newer aluminum radiator and other new maintenance parts including a new starter. The 4-speed transmission and the rear end are supposed to be the original as well however I did not get underneath to check. This truck starts, runs, rides, and drives great. There are no issues that I can find with it. The brakes have had recent work and maintenance and stop just right. The gauges work and the lights other than the speedometer. The speedometer cable is broken or bound somewhere in the cable. Doesnt really matter as the top speed is around 45 anyway. The truck is still on the original 6-volt system. The wood in the bed needs to be replaced and has begun to rot. I originally intended to replace the wood, but I decided to sell it like it is as the new owners may want to pick the wood that they would prefer. The boards consist of eleven 2x8x10 boards as it is a 10-foot bed. The side boards are excellent and do not need replacing. The tires have plenty of tread but do have a small amount of dry rot on the sidewalls. The interior has been somewhat restored a few years back as well with new seat cover and interior paint. The rubber floor mat is the original and is cracked and torn on the battery side. The truck also has the original hand crank for the engine mounted on the bed side panel. It also has a custom crank guide on the front bumper shown in the pics.
The serial number is 8VKB1168
broken down and decoded as follows:
8 = Atlanta, GA assembly plant
VK = 1952 Model Series 4400 161 Wheelbase 1 ½ Ton
B = Feb build date
1168 = sequential number
This is a cool old truck and very original also. It would make a great display truck for a business such as a produce market or anything else that you can think of.
