Description for Chevrolet Camaro 1970

This is a very nice 1970 Z/28 RS. It had a very high quality nut and bolt restoration only 1373 miles ago. The odometer was set back to zero at the time of the restoration. The paint and body work performed at this time is extremely high quality, and the car is exceptionally straight with excellent panel fitment. This car has the numbers matching LT1 solid lifter engine, numbers matching M21 Muncie close ratio 4-speed transmission, and numbers matching date coded COZ code 3.73 ratio 12-bolt posi-traction rear axle. This car has power steering and power brakes. This is a center console car with Hurst shifter. This is the ONLY 1970 Z/28 RS split bumper 4spd console car on Ebay that I can find which has the correct numbers matching date coded engine, transmission, and rear end. If you truly want a special and rare collector car to put up as a sound investment, I would say you have found it! Hugger Orange is a good color in the collector car industry for resale value. Do not buy that new $60,000 pickup truck or newer Camaro that will lose half its value or more in the first few years you own it. What kind of sound investment would that be? Buy a piece of American muscle that has been more sound and stable than many stock market or IRA investments over the past 50 years, that is increasing in valve by more than 1000% return on investment. Furthermore, and be honest, which would you rather show your buddies: your stock portfolio, or this car setting in your garage?

The car is code 65 Hugger Orange with black stripes and black interior. This car was built in Van Nuys Body Plant in Las Angeles CA. The car was completed the first week of April 1970 (04A car) and delivered to Russ Lyons Chevrolet in Boulder Colorado: official GM production date 04/06/1970.I have owned many restored muscle cars in my life-- this car is on of the more nicely restored ones-very near concours level. Fuel gage and speedometer work, Heat and defrost work well and blow high pressure air like a newer car. Floor mount gas pedel, rear bumper guards, 8,000 rpm tach w/ 150 mile per hour speedometer!
There were 124,901 Camaros produced in 1970. Of this 124,901 only 8,733 Z/28s were produced, 6%. It is not known how many Z/28s were produced in 1970 with the RS dual package, but it has been said less than 900. Regardless, the RS Z/28 is one of the most sought after and most collectible cars in the industry. A quick comparison: there were 20,302 1969 Z/28 produced. Considering there were around 12,000 less 1970 Z/28s produced and they received basically the same solid lifter high compression engine as the 1969 Z/28 w/ the same double hump large valve 2.02/1.600 #186 high flow heads (except for 1970 receiving longer 3.480 stroked crankshaft and produced 70 more horsepower than the 1969 Z/28) I can understand why the 1970 Z/28 is becoming so desirable. The 1970 RS Z/28 is the ULTIMATE Camaro of all time!

I have watched these 1970 Z/28s appreciate at a rapid rate during the past 5-10 years. This is the second I have owned and one of my favorite all time cars. I am selling this car to pay off some business debt. However, I will probably regret selling this car. My gut tells me since the 1970 Z/28 is the highest horsepower 2nd Gen Camaro ever produced and the only single year 2nd Gen ever to be equipped with 12 bolt rear axle and solid lifter 11.0:1 compression ratio engine along with 780cfm dual feed Holley carburetor--my gut tells me it will not be long before these cars are selling for as much or possibly more than the 1969 RS Z/28. I think we will see 1970 RS Z/28s in excellent condition will sell for over $100,000 within the next 10-15 years, maybe sooner.

The 1970 Z/28 was after all the pinnacle of the Z/28 in power and performance, even more so than the 1969 Z/28. Then beginning in 1971 the power and performance was pulled back/reduced, the 1971 and later receiving a 10 bolt rear axle and compression ratio of only 9.0:1 or less with the good #186 large valve heads being yanked to be replaced with small valve 76cc chamber smog heads in 1971. It soon after kept getting worse by 1973 feminine hydraulic lifters catering to women and men who did not know how to adjust the valves, and smaller carburetor-- the last testicle of the LT1 was clipped off.

The 1970 Z/28 with big valve #186 head, high lift camshaft on solid high rev lifters, 780 dual feed Holley, 11.0:1 forged domes, forged #1182 stroker crank and Winters #110 high rise intake was the most masculine of any Camaro ever built! The sound of the solid lifters drumming away talking to one's ear and the aggressive feel and sound of the Munice w/ Hurst gate as one pulls the gears with the beautifully styled chrome shifter ball in hand is something to be experienced. If this in itself does not reel you in, I suspect the tuff look of the four rear recessed tail lights and split front bumper w/ the Z/28 badging surely will!

Interesting fun fact: This 1970 LT1 engine was under-rated by Chevrolet for insurance purposes, NHRA in 1970 required the 1970 Z/28 owners to have this engine rated at 425hp to keep racing on the level when these cars were used for racing within NHRA. "The 1970 Z/28: Chevrolet essentially gave the public an honest-to-goodness genuine racing motor!"
