Description for Chevrolet C/K Pickup 2500 1988
I bought this truck in stock trim in 2001 with 97k miles on it. I rebuilt it at about 105k miles in 2001-02 with the parts listed. I estimate 90% of miles since the build have been highway miles. I did most of the design and fab work myself, with the exception of the R&P/locker install on both axles (completed by Predator 4WD in Colorado Springs, CO). I put it on its top in 2006 while wheeling during a slow-speed descent off a rock. Up until that point, the body was pretty nice. You can see the damage in the pics, primarily to the hood, roof, right side corners and tailgate. It did break the windshield but I installed a new one and it is sealed up. I haven't done much with the truck since then-a couple short trail rides, occasional crank up/drive around the property and regular maintenance. I have the clean/clear South Dakota title in my name. It's not currently registered so test drives would be limited to around the property. It could be made highway ready without much work, if desired. It can be sporty to drive at highway speeds as it has a very soft suspension with no sway bars and bias ply tires. It crawls very nicely with a ratio of 116:1 before considering the torque converter. Cranks up easily (sometimes takes a 2nd attempt to start) and runs well with no smoke/blow by. No rot on the body or frame. Parts/options:
- Stock IFS replaced w/High Pinion, King Pin Dana 60. 35 spline ARB air locker (#RD36), 5.13 gears, Warn manual hubs. Mounted via modified 3-link w/panhard rod using 3/4" chromoly rod ends. Crossover steering w/drop pitman arm
- Front King Shock Pre-Runner coilovers (2.5â€x14" travel) w/remote reservoir and dual rate coils (14â€x250lb + 16â€x350lb coils) mounted via custom built hoops
- Klune V crawler/underdrive gearbox. 2.72:1 in low range, 27 spline input/output shaft, cable shifter
- NP241C Transfer case. 2.72:1 in low range, slip yoke eliminator/short-shaft kit
- Built 700R4 transmission w/heavy duty hard parts, red eagle frictions, kolene steels, shift kit, hi-performance servos, heavy duty manual lockup converter (switch activated), cooler, temp gauge
- Rear axle 10.5" 14 bolt full floater. 5.13 gears, No-spin Detroit locker (#225S-10), drum brakes
- 38" Super Swamper TSL Bias ply tires (13-38x16) plus full size spare. Steel wheels 8 lug on 6.5â€
- Original, stock 5.7L/350 w/throttle body injection (210hp/300ft-lbs). Factory external oil cooler
- Rear driveshaft built by high angle driveline with 1350 CV and 1410 u-joints
- ORD rear shackle flip kit (no lift blocks) on stock springs w/flipped overload spring for better articulation
- Shorty headers (CA emissions equipment and was registered/smogged in CA in the past), 2.5" Magnaflow muffler
- ARB electric compressor w/air up kit
- Belt driven York A/C compressor retrofitted for secondary hi-flow air compressor w/water separator
- Alpine AM/FM/CD/Aux head unit, Amp, 10" Xplod subwoofer, removable XM receiver; including XM home and FM modulator kits for the XM receiver
- Optima Redtop battery; 1000W inverter; fused, 1 AWG cable run to interior for inverter & amp
- Power window, power door locks, cruise control, air conditioning, tilt wheel, husky molded floor mats
- Locking aluminum toolbox in bed
- Various manuals, a few spare parts, drop hitch (does not have a receiver installed on the truck)
- Fenders trimmed to fit to keep lift to a minimum
Issues:
- Significant body damage from being on it's top; dents, dings, scratches as seen in pics; bed floor has dents and a few small holes; damaged areas were wire brushed and touched up with spray paint
- Rear tires are newer with good tread. All tires have age cracking with fronts/spare worse than rear. All hold air. Right front/spare bleeds down over the course of 1-2 months. I wouldn't recommend running them at highway speeds due to their age
- Occasional drip of trans fluid from between the transmission/crawler box and rear flange on transfer case
- Missing plastic cowl vent cover behind hood. No wiper arms/blades. Wiper motor is present and works
- A/C does not blow cold but system holds pressure (R12 refrigerant). HVAC doors to select defrost/upper/lower vent hang up resulting in most of the air coming out of the upper vents
- Missing some interior trim parts to include headliner, passenger A pillar trim piece, sun visors; glove box hinge broken
- Original front ABS system is removed as the front axle isn't compatible; including the original ABS control module (no warning lights are illuminated from the ABS missing)
- Power inverter shows a fault light when turned on and does not produce power (easy remove/replace)
- No rear bumper
- Lift struts on toolbox are worn out and lid seal needs to be replaced
- 1 of the 2 steering dampers dented and leaked all the fluid out
- Some bump steer due to different length/mounting locations of crossover steering arm and panhard rod
Mechanically the truck is sound and would make a cheap entry into a very capable off road rig/crawler or as a source of parts. I've tried to list everything I can think of, but obviously I may have missed something. Please inspect the vehicle before placing a bid.
