Description for Chevrolet Other 1958
For a car that makes you want to get in and drive cross-country any time, it's hard to beat a '50s Chevy with a small block under the hood. This 1958 Chevrolet Biscayne Restomod is an excellent example of Chevy's 1-year-wonder, a body style that has a cult following today due to its rarity and amazing design. Nicely restored with some very welcomed upgrades, this 4-door is turn-key and ready to cruise. We'll resist the "American Graffiti"... references for now, but this is still one cool full-sized cruiser with lots of performance. Of course, the bright red paint job adds to the '50s cool factor, and it has been nicely rendered using modern paint technology, so the shine is impressive. Perfect it is not, but this Biscayne was restored to be driven, not to spend its life hiding in a garage. The sheetmetal is in good shape and quite straight, emphasizing the intricate contours of the rear quarters. Gaps are good all around and the doors close with a reassuring solidity that only comes from good base stock. We like the limited brightwork on the Biscayne model, which lets the sheetmetal speak for itself, a factory look that almost looks customized. However, it's important to note that the original trim remains intact, including the dramatic stainless side trim which has been neatly polished, and the enormous bumpers and mesh grille that provide so much of the drama in this design. We have hundreds of cars in the showroom, but somehow this red Biscayne really stands out. A pretty penny was spent on the vinyl-and-tweed red interior during the restoration, which has a vintage look that seems right at home in this 1958 Chevy. The seats feature good foam underneath, making them all-day comfortable, and fresh red carpets brighten the cabin. Crisply rendered tweed door panels have indented interior sections and two-tone armrests for a custom look that's period-correct, and the dash was painted red to match the bodywork and continue the theme. The original gauges are still in place and are joined in the dash by an attached A/C unit that has been upgraded with R134a refrigerant and blows nice and cold. An aftermarket AM/FM/CD player rests in the original dash slot, and the interior is capped-off by a large red steering wheel with chrome Chevy horn ring. With this being a four-door cruiser, the backseat wasn't ignored during the restoration and barely looks used today, providing the same comfort to the passengers that is afforded to the driver. The trunk is impressively clean, with full carpeting, large mounted spare, and enough room for anything you'd need on a road trip. A lot of guys claim their cars can be driven anywhere, but this car can actually deliver on the promise. With a swapped-in 350 V8 TBI motor doing the heavy-lifting, worries of dependability should quickly dissipate as it's one of the most reliable forms of transportation that GM ever stamped their brand on. Dress-up pieces like the chrome open-element air cleaner and orange valve covers make this an engine bay you'll be proud to show, while functional upgrades like a dual master cylinder and front discs, fresh shocks, and a TH350 3-speed automatic make it a pleasure to drive. The chassis is original and super sanitary, thanks to living many years of its life in Oklahoma and Texas, and the original rear end still takes care of delivering the power. Original-style manifolds feed a dual exhaust system that hugs the X-frame and uses glasspack-style mufflers for an awesome sound from the burly small block. Polished American Racing wheels finish the period hot rod look, and wear 225/70/15 blackwall radials that really stuff the wheel wells. A lot of time and money was spent on this car, creating something unique without going over the top. With excellent workmanship and plenty of room for travel companions, this Biscayne is ready to hit the road and cruise. Call today!
