Description for Chevrolet Camaro 1968
1968 Camaro SS "396/350HPâ€
VIN# 124378N445840
Let's knock out the basics:
Yes, it is a real SS Camaro, NOT a clone.
The car is RUST FREE
Retains a lot of the originality and parts.
Up for sale is a beautiful Matador Red 1968 (100% real) Camaro SS. This car was built in Norwood, OH and originally delivered to V.V. Cooke Chevrolet in Louisville, KY. It has one repaint in the factory color of Matador Red and as you can see from the photos was done very nicely. This car looks like it was restored to the day it rolled off the lot with some modern hidden goodies to make drivability easier. The car retains its factory original tachometer and center console gauges.
The car at idle sounds amazing and when you mash the pedal and the secondary's open up on the carburetor you better hang on because it feels like a shot of nitrous kicked in. The car shows very well and the brightwork is in great condition. It is PRIME example of a driver quality car but with show quality appearance.
The engine is a recently refreshed 396 big block Chevrolet that is period correct however, it is not numbers matching. It has a Quadrajet carburetor that was just professionally fully rebuilt. It is matted to a M21 Close Ratio 4 speed transmission with a brand new 11" Center Force Clutch, Disc, throw-out bearing, and a 1410 Aluminum flywheel with steel insert that was just installed January 2019. Also installed was a set of Hooker Competition Plus headers, new stainless steel dual exhaust with 3 chamber Flow Master mufflers.
To get the motor to crank right away a Power Master XS 9400 mini-starter was added, as well as a 6425 digital MSD Distributor, but was hidden out of plain sight to retain a factory appearance. A MSD blaster coil, MSD plug wires, and NGK spark plugs were also installed. The car fires right up at the turn of the ignition. (See video)
As all Camaro SS cars, it has a 12 bolt posi rear that was just rebuilt with 4:10 gears. The brakes in the front were upgraded to Genuine GM 4 piston disc brakes. The rears were also replaced with a Genuine GM drum brake kit. A new Genuine GM master cylinder was installed as well as all new brake lines.
The fuel system received a GM AC Delco 375hp fuel pump and all new fuel lines that were routed away from the headers to avoid boiling the fuel. All new GM hoses and belts were outfitted throughout the engine bay. Brand new BF Goodrich radials were outfitted on all four corners and new center caps were added to the rally wheels. I also have the original Firestone Wide Oval tires as seen in the trunk photo if you would prefer those back on the car instead of the BF Goodrich tires.
ALL lights, blinkers, gauges, speedometer, and tachometer function. The "4 pack" gauges in the center console all work and read correct. Both windows roll up and down perfectly fine. The AM radio functions as it should. The e-brake works as well as the hood and trunk latches. The doors close fine. There is almost NOTHING that needs to be done on this classic.
