Description for Chevrolet Camaro 1968
The Chevy Camaro has always delivered big performance in a slick package, and this 1968 RS/SS 396 continues the tradition. Painstakingly restored by experts with passion in their hands, this beauty packs a rompin' stompin' 396 V8 motor and a fantastic look. If showing up in an awesome piece of Chevy muscle is your idea of fun, this is your next car. This sucker could probably compete for trophies at top levels, but to be honest, it's... probably too fun to only be gawked and admired, although it sure is easy to do so. The Matador Red paint is surely worlds better than anything the factory could have managed, and as always, it looks fantastic on the F-body shape. Finished approximately 8-years ago, they worked hard to get it into shape, nailing the gaps and prepping the steel to make it look right once everything was said and done, and the depth of the reflections in the body's surface is proof enough. It's not perfect, but it certainly shows very well. Correct black bumble-bee stripes were painted on with precision, and the chin spoiler is locked-in right below the bumper guards, so this car is sure to stand out in a crowd. It also has correct RS equipment like the popular hidden headlights up front and separate back-up lights out back, plus the usual ducktail spoiler on the trunk. True to form for a big block car, the tail panel is properly blacked-out, which works with the overall color combination and it's nice that they decided to keep the original hood with its chrome velocity stacks built right in. Chrome bumpers look great against the red paint and they're like the rest of the car: better than new. Black really is the only interior color that you'd choose on a Camaro like this, and the buckets wear reproduction seat covers that fit well and remain quite comfortable. The interior, like the bodywork, is pretty stock with a few thoughtful changes that enhance the driving experience. The black carpets are correct, the door panels are in excellent shape, and there's a center console with a horseshoe shifter in the middle and an SS-style auxiliary gauge pack just ahead. The gauges in the dash are standard issue, a Pioneer AM/FM/CD/AUX radio slots neatly into the original spot and yes, this sucker is air conditioned (what, you thought all that big block power was going to go to waste?). The trunk is fitted with a correct plaid replacement mat and furnished with a full-sized spare and a proper jack assembly. The burly big-block 396 V8 under the hood brings big firepower and with mountainous torque production, it'll pretty much shred the tires at will. The decal up top suggests that it is an L-35 396/325 (the casting we pulled seems to lean that way as well), and the look is consistent, so if a BBC Camaro can be a sleeper, this might be it. Proper chrome valve covers, a Bowtie intake, and a 4-barrel carburetor help with the vintage performance look. The modern A/C compressor is chromed and polished and a giant aluminum radiator dominates the space up front, the two most obvious signs that this Camaro isn't like the others. The engine starts with a wonderful big block bark from the dual exhaust system and pulls like a freight train, as you'd expect. The chassis is super clean and includes red pans that match the body work, and a heavy-duty 12-bolt rear end to handle the power transferred from the TH350 automatic transmission. The ride height is very close to stock, so it looks right sitting on Rally wheels with 235/60/15 redline radial tires all around. There are inferior Camaros out there for more money, but this one skillfully blends big performance, correct details, and an outstanding look to make one heck of an early F-body. Offered with lots of original documentation and receipts, they really don't get much better than this. Call today!
