Description for Chevrolet Nova 1970
1970 Nova SS 396 L78/375HP 4 Speed Survivor
You are viewing a very nice higher end driver L78 Nova. The car was purchased here in Spokane WA new and has never left with 3 owners and only 55000 original miles. Much of the car is original and never been restored with other parts of the car restored. The car has not had a full complete restoration and never needed it. History on the car here in Spokane with many car people knowing the car. This car is the pinnacle of a 70 Nova, right color combo, engine option, vinyl top and wheel combo along with a 4 speed and buckets with console. Perfect car to drive and enjoy. As the 3rd owner 9 years since purchase with only 1K miles driven since owned. Everything works on the car and always stored in a heated garage. Very large organized file of receipts and records on the car. The second owner had the car stored for 17 years.
Things that have been done or replaced since purchase:
Fuel pump and lines replaced, steering wheel, carb, horns, disc brake calipers and rotors, mufflers and tail pipes, refurbished original gauges and new clock, air shocks, 4 core radiator replaced and hoses.
Please read on for more particulars of the car
Body/Paint: The body is in very good condition with no known rust. Body panels line up nice. The paint was done about 11 years ago, but only a couple thousand miles put on the car since it was done. The paint is very nice driver quality that shows well. Very nice finish. Painted as original color but base/clear. Vinyl top was replaced when the car was painted and shows like new. No rust or bubbles what so ever.
Interior: Most of the interior is original and very presentable. Items replaced are steering wheel, refurbished gauges, new clock, new carpet. The interior looks really nice and presentable particularly knowing most of it including the dash pad is original to the car. Factory console with gauge package. Power steering.
Running Gear: Original 396 L78 with correct heads and valve covers. The block is believed to be original to the car. It is a 4 bolt main block with the correct stamp on the engine pad with assembly date and prefix denoting a L78 with 4 speed. Valve train rebuilt as stock with original solid lifters and H slot rockers. The VIN is not stamped on the pad leading me to believe when the engine was rebuilt it was decked losing the VIN number and assemble date. The assembly date and prefix was restamped, but the VIN wasn't. All this can be further discussed in detail if you call to inquire. New Holley 750 double pumper. I do not have the original Holley carb, jetted 70/68. The transmission is the original M21 (P7R25) along with the original 12 bolt rear end with 373 gears, posi.
Suspension: Sub Frame has not been off the car with original mounting donuts in place. Stock with ball joints and tie rods replaced and A arm bushings as well. Steers and rides nice and solid. Rear suspension is original and hasn't been touched. Air shocks installed, which was very typical on a Nova back in the day.
Brakes: Power brakes with rotors and calipers replaced. Drum rear as stock.
Exhaust: 2 ½ in exhaust with Flow Master mufflers and stock manifolds. Sounds very nice.
Bright work: All very presentable with bumpers rechromed. All show very nice.
Glass: Windshield replaced with the rest original to the car.
Wheels/Tires: Original restored Magnum wheels with correct Firestone E70 14 bias redline tires. Spare wheel is correct same tire that is on the car.
Summary: L78 Novas are very rare and hard to find. This is an excellent example all ordered as you see from the factory. Great driver that drives and runs excellent. The ultimate in options and color combo for a 70 Nova at the time. I have over 130 additional detail pictures of the car. Please provide your email address and I will forward the additional pictures with supporting paperwork. Reasonable price. Great value and a quality car for the money. Don't miss out on this very rare car.
