Chevrolet El Camino is a coupé utility/pickup vehicle that was produced by Chevrolet between 1959â€"60 and 1964-87. Introduced in the 1959 model year in response to the success of the Ford Ranchero pickup, its first run lasted only two years. Production resumed for the 1964â€"1977 model years based on the Chevelle platform, and continued for the 1978â€"1987 model years based on the GM G-body platform. Although based on corresponding Chevrolet car lines, the vehicle is classified and titled in North... America as a truck. GMC's badge engineered El Camino variant, the Sprint, was introduced for the 1971 model year. Renamed Caballero in 1978, it was also produced through the 1987 model year. It is powered by its 1972 402 big block that was professionally rebuilt by LaPottre Racing Heads/Engines with all NEW: pistons, bearings, valves, springs, rockers, push rods, soft plugs, cam, lifters, timing chain and gears, high volume oil pump, 750 Demon carburetor, NGK plugs, 8.8mm plug wires, HEI distributor, Edelbrock intake, motor mounts and head bolts, Hedman Headers with full 2.5 inch dual exhaust with 12 inch stainless tips, alternator, battery, voltage regulator and cables, heater core, air cleaner. The starter was also rebuilt. The transmission was rebuilt and given a shift kit by MidMichigan Transmissions. The suspension was professionally installed. New U-joints were installed in the driveshaft. The El Camino retains a stock rear end with limited slip set up with fresh fluid. The brakes are new-front and rear, along with new front shocks and rear air shocks. The interior was professionally redone by Superior interiors consisting of a new upholstered seat, new carpet, new headliner with dome light, new door panels, new factory gauges and new weather strips and felts.
