Description for Chevrolet Camaro 1968
1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS396. Factory 4 speed. 12 Bolt Rear End We all know these cars are not on every corner and I looked long and hard for a project car that had the right options. Here are the reasons I believe it to be a true SS Big Block; 1) The original hood is in place with the factory Chrome Inserts. 2) It came with a Factory 4 speed. The pushrod hole is in the firewall and the pivot linkage ball is still attached to the frame. 3) The 12 Bolt Rear End looks as if it's been there from the beginning. 4) It has Factory Disc Brakes. 5) The heater hose connections are in the Big Block location and the housing has the factory sealer. so it's never been off. 6) It came with the upgraded interior option. as stated on the cowl tag. Why I bought this SS Camaro for a project; 1) It's the right car for a project. This car finished will have a very high value. 2) It has a 427 Big Block in it. I can supply block numbers to prove it truly is a 427. 3) It has a new complete interior kit in it. 4) It has Rally Wheels. As it should in my opinion. 5) It is easily converted back to an original 4 speed. 6) Factory Power Steering. 7) Factory Power Brakes. Some vehicle information; 1) This car has been sitting in storage since the early 90's. 2) You can see it has the small brake pedal. not the wide automatic pedal. The pivot shaft for the clutch pedal is in place under the dash. 3) One of the headliner seams has come apart. It might be fixable. I planned to just put in a new one. 4) It has an 8 Track stereo installed and no speakers. A new owner will be able to install what he wants. I had planned to put in one of the new retro decks. 5) I would give the new paint job about an 8. it's not perfect. It would be a perfect driver paint job in my opinion. but that's me. I keep the car with a car cover at work because my customers all seem to want to talk about how nice it looks and I just don't have the time. 6) The interior of the trunk looks good. 7) The engine compartment looks good. It has new inner fenders. 8) The brakes need to be gone through since it's been sitting so long. 9) It needs a new exhaust system from the headers back. It does sound awesome with the headers open though. 10) The engine looks brand new inside. I removed one of the valve covers to inspect. 11) It has period correct custom aluminum Micky Thompson Valve Covers. I had planned to have them powder coated. 12) Both Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor. 13) Ignition consists of Accel Ignition Coil and a Mallory Unilite Distributor Assembly. 14) It has an automatic transmission installed. Why someone would take out a factory 4 speed is beyond me. 15) I have a clean title to the vehicle in my possession. The reason I'm not fixing this car is it needs all the body pans. I thought I could change them and decided it's beyond what I can do. I can supply the links to the sellers that can supply everything needed for this project. and the prices are very surprisingly affordable.
