Description for Chevrolet C-10 1972
Here at Streetside Classics, we're lucky enough to find the nicest old trucks in the south, and this 1972 Chevrolet C10 Custom is no exception. Originally hailing from a warm, southern climate, you know it's clean, and a strong-running 350 crate V8, a smooth-shifting 3-on-the-tree, and handsome two-tone paint make it just a little nicer than your average pickup. We're seeing more and more of these trucks getting complete makeovers, and someone obviously spend a good chunk of change getting this one into shape. Fortunately, this truck needed very little surgery to look this good, and while the white-on-blue paint is a few years old, it still has a great shine that looks just right on the vintage pickup. They did things right and it's obvious that most of the trim was removed for the respray, polished up, and reinstalled (or completely replaced for that matter) to add to its well-dressed look. The long bed and regular cab are arguably the best combination for a truck that might still do some work on weekends, and it gives the truck great proportions and a purposeful look. And speaking of hauling, the bed is well preserved, with very little evidence of having been a work truck in its past, and it's protected by a spray-in bedliner, so don't be afraid to put it to work now and then.
The interior is basic, as you'd expect, but there are a few upgrades that make it fun to drive. The bench seat carries a custom blue vinyl seat cover that looks super cool with the "Chevy" script in the middle, and it's in pretty darned nice shape and comfortable too. The matching dash and door panels are in great condition, offering close to body-colored details to make it all work together, and the factory instrument panel looks newer and it's full of crisp, clear gauges that cover the engine's vitals. The original radio is long gone, but for entertainment, this one uses a retro-style ACC AM/FM/AUX stereo that's a vast improvement over the factory AM unit and fits right into the factory slot in the dash. Other features include the wrapped original steering wheel that's joined on the column by the smooth-shifting 3-speed, front disc brakes and power steering, and a light blue carpets on the floor that warm up the cab and give truck a slightly more sophisticated feel.
Under the hood is a strong-running 350 crate V8 with Vortec sawtooth heads, and with only 2k miles on the clock since it was dropped in, this C-10 is ready for another 40 years of reliable service. The engine bay looks tidy and has a little bit of flash, including the chrome Edelbrock air cleaner and matching valve covers atop the engine. There's also an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, a big alternator, and a giant radiator up front to keep things nice and cool. The inner fenders and firewall were painted to match the body and original exhaust manifolds dump into a custom dual exhaust system that sounds just right through it's chambered mufflers. A 3-speed manual transmission shifts crisply and powers the heavy-duty 12-bolt rear end, which has reasonable gears inside to make this a great all-around vehicle. Factory steel wheels wear original hubcaps for a real 1970s look and it rides on 265/70/15 Bridgestone white-letter radials that ride and handle well.
