Description for Chevrolet Camaro 1978
Sporting a strong, capable drivetrain anchored by its original powerplant, as well as a high impact exterior color, this 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 offers the chance to own a bona fide, street ready Z/28 - not just a rebadged copy - at an attainable price. It debuted at a time when some other manufacturers were scurrying toward the exits where performance cars were concerned due to the oil shortages of the era, and stands as proof of Chevy's commitment to stick to its guns and continue to offer the generously sized V8 its customers came to expect from the nameplate.Clad in a sharp shade of yellow that's accented by a signature black Z/28 decal package, this Chevy features some distinctive styling cues to set it apart from previous model years. The paint was refreshed not long ago, judging from its fresh appearance and shows some nice workmanship. We tend to think of front and rear bumpers that match the rest of the car as the rule rather than the exception, but prior to '78 they had never appeared on a Camaro, nor had the low profile scoop that now graces the hood. While they're both design elements added before the car left the factory, those contrasting black front grille and headlight housings and the rear spoiler give this Camaro a cool, aftermarket look. It's an undeniably sporty looking car, with an aerodynamic, wedge shape and wide track that confer a sense of agility.
The black vinyl interior has been thoroughly restored and really looks sharp. The pair of buckets up front add a subtle touch of aftermarket customization while staying very much in keeping with the aesthetics of the era and look so fresh that they haven't begun to show any creasing on their bolsters. This is an interior you can easily picture yourself in as you and your crew hit the road for some worry-free good times. The dash area is in outstanding condition and sports a textured silver panel surrounding functional factory-issue gauges and the supple dash pad sitting above is free of cracks. The carpet lining the floor is in matching condition and is ornamented by a pair of Z/28 floor mats up front. This classic still has its factory air conditioning on board and it will only take a bit of minor attention to get the feature back online.
The 350 cubic inch V8 standing by beneath the hood is the same powerplant this Chevy began life with. It was professionally rebuilt only a little while back, so it's in top running form, and is now fed by an Edelbrock 4-barrel carb. Sitting in the center of an exceptionally well-maintained engine bay and surrounded by fresh hoses and squeaky clean components, the 350 is dressed with a pair of chrome valve covers and a chrome timing chain cover and sounds great as it exhales out of its aftermarket headers leading to a Flowmaster dual exhaust. An HEI ignition has been added to maximize available spark as the engine teams with a 3 speed TH350 automatic transmission that's shifting flawlessly to round out a very capable vintage drivetrain. Power steering makes for easy maneuvering, while power brakes that feature discs up front bring the set of 15" color matched wheels wrapped with BF Goodrich T/A Radials to dependably quick stops. Below, the undercarriage looks unusually fresh for a car from this era, so it's unlikely this classic has ever ventured into any hostile territory during its years of service.
