Offered for sale is an exceptional, NCRS Top-Flight 1962 Chevrolet Corvette Two-Top Convertible with its numbers matching, Fuel Injected 327ci (360 HP) V8, 4-Speed Manual Gearbox and finished in striking Honduras Maroon Metallic over a Fawn Beige interior and with a believed 45,378 original miles. One of just 1,918 final-year C1s equipped with the first-year fuel injected V8, the car also left the factory optioned with a hard-top, power windows and Wonderbar radio.

Accompanied by extensive documentation detailing ownership history and restoration, this gorgeous, extremely well sorted example is a 7-time NCRS Top-Flight Award Winner (in both the 1990s and as recently as late 2017), First Place Corvettes at Carlisle Concours Winner, AACA Award Winner, Spinner Concourse Gold Spinner Winner, First Place Junior Winner at Hershey, among many others. This long period of success at a range of events is as much a testament to the incredible quality of the car’s 30+ year old body-off restoration as it is the continued improvements and incredible care its owners have provided through the years. It’s truly an investment-grade “Fuelie”.

Little about the car’s early history is confirmable, however the car’s file contains a possible indicator in the form of a Delco Battery warranty card with a purchase date of December 15, 1961, issued to Hubert J. Sparks of Oskaloosa, Iowa for his 1962 Chevrolet purchased at Knoepfler Chevrolet. Records show that the car was acquired by Alfred R. Anderson of Hillsdale, NJ in 1984, that he would own the car until 1994, and that during his ownership the car underwent a three year, body-off restoration. The engine was rebuilt, bored 30 over, balanced and blueprinted, Crane cam, roller lifters with a Centerforce clutch and hardened valves for unleaded fuel. All of this work led to the car earning NCRS Top-Flight Status (first in 1993), as well as the NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence and Performance Verification Award. Zora Arkus-Duntov and Dave McLellan both signed the F.I. plenum chamber, dated 6/4/95.

In 1994 Mr. Anderson sold the car to John J. DeTulio of Hamden, CT who continued showing and improving the car over the next 8 years, earning a 99.4 NCRS Score in 1996. Mr. DeTulio became an NCRS Judge himself and eventually commissioned a full rebuild of the engine – the block was boiled and honed, the crank was polished, engine balanced, heads rebuilt, and it received new seals, rings, gaskets, etc. All of Mr. DeTulio’s numerous receipts are included in our 190-image Documentation Gallery.

In 2002 Mr. DeTulio sold the car into the collection of Mr. John Denlinger of Lancaster, PA, who kept the car for the ensuing decade. Although there’s no documentation available during his stewardship, like the previous owner he kept it properly stored and put very few miles on the car, selling it to a Mr. Mike Healey of Stillwater, OK in 2012. Mr. Healey’s ownership mimicked that of Mr. Denlinger, and in January of 2016 he consigned the car to Fast Lane Classic Cars of St. Charles, MO, who already had the car’s next owner lined up for acquisition.

An avid collector and mechanic with decades of experience, as well as an inherently fastidious nature, the current owner (of Santa Barbara, CA) received the car in incredible condition, winning Best in Class at the Greystone Mansion Concours in May of 2016. That said, he summarily went about making a number of minor improvements, ensuring the car’s continued NCRS Top Flight status, which most recently occurred on March 18th, 2017, at which point the car was judged to 98 points. In total, and excluding all labor (which he enjoys performing himself), he spent $9,800+ on improvements.

The current owner also acquired a number of items (at significant cost) that will accompany the sale: an original jack and wrench/handle, original owner’s manual and protection plan booklets and four 670/15 Goodyear Non-DOT tires to match the existing Non-DOT spare. The latter are particularly noteworthy – they’re incredibly difficult to find, and if found, are typically significantly expensive. On the same note, the car is also fitted with Non-DOT headlamps.

The car remains in truly exceptional, Top Flight condition. Imperfections are few and far between (each documented in the photo gallery), however it bears noting that they’re exceedingly minor, in no way detracting from the car’s significant overall appeal. The soft top has not been replaced and evidences its lack of use (discoloration, two small splits), however such a replacement is inexpensive and, never used during his ownership, the current owner just never saw fit to do so. Aside from these negligible deficiencies, everything is in fantastic condition – paint, panel fit, chrome, glass, and upholstery are all excellent. Everything works as intended and the car is mechanically outstanding - a true joy to drive.

If you’re in the market for an investment grade, numbers matching, fastidiously sorted, extensively documented and utterly striking 1962 C1 Fuelie, this incredible example deserves your serious consideration. We’ve tried our best to document every aspect of the car in the 120+ photo gallery, but inspections are welcomed – we’ve no doubt the chances of disappointment are virtually nil.
