Description for Chevrolet Corvette 1972
This 1972 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is an unusual combination of beauty and brawn, and includes some nice options as well as a matching-numbers drivetrain. Clean, original, affordable Corvettes are still out there, and the pedigree is a nice bonus for the guy looking to have some Corvette fun at a reasonable cost. The Elkhart Green finish on this handsome final-year dual-chrome bumper 'Vette is handsome and crisp, a somewhat unusual color that looks great on the timeless Stingray shape. It was one of the rare colors of Corvettes built to this spec, and it still looks pretty up-to-date with today's sophisticated color pallets. Repainted not long ago to a very high-end, driver-grade standard, all the panel gaps are factory correct, and it has a nice gloss to the finish with none of the cracking in the usual spots. Aside from a few very minor signs of use that could be erased with a deep buff, this sucker looks absolutely fantastic. And when it comes to C3s, you're either a chrome bumper guy or a rubber bumper guy; this one sports the original style chrome units that frame the egg crate grilles up front and add interest to the flat rear panel with CORVETTE block letters and a luggage rack above. The stainless trim is in excellent shape and all the badges and emblems are right where they're supposed to be. This is one clean-looking 'Vette!
Inside, this Corvette feels quite authentic, which it should since the black leather interior was all restored back to original. The seats look great and feel very comfortable, yet are still firm and supportive, and no aftermarket upholstery kit quite duplicates the detail you find in the stock-style seat covers. You'll note this one offers factory A/C (though it does need servicing) and the original gauges remain in great condition, including the factory tachometer and auxiliary gauges in the center stack. The steering wheel will look familiar to anyone who loves Chevy muscle, as will the original AM/FM radio in the center of the dash, and the woodgrain applique throughout warms things up inside. Corvette-logo floor mats have been installed, and that's surely part of the reason the plush carpets are still in such great shape. Overhead, the T-tops seal up well, and are easily removed for an open-air experience that's part of the Corvette tradition.
The engine is the original, matching numbers 350 cubic inch V8, which was the base engine in 1972. Nevertheless, it makes an impressive 360 pounds of torque and moves the Corvette with enough potency that most cars are still advised to leave it alone. It was rebuilt not too long ago with an .020 overbore and an upgraded GM L82 cam inside, and it is topped with an original-style 4-barrel carb and intake that's topped with chrome dual-snorkeled air cleaner. The engine bay shows lots of recent work, including bright chrome details throughout plus Chevy Orange paint on the block. The TH400 3-speed automatic transmission feeds the limited slip rear end with 3.08 gears inside, so it's a fantastic highway cruiser, and a recent 2.5-inch dual exhaust system with stainless mufflers sounds great. It's not overly detailed, but it's in excellent driving condition with evidence of clean living everywhere you look, and those factory 15-inch Rally wheels ride on a set of fat 245/60/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials.
Clean, honest Corvettes don't get much nicer than this, especially if you're the kind of guy who likes to just jump in and go. Thanks to the rumbling small block under the hood it's a party to drive, and there aren't many cars that will generate more attention than this one on a warm summer day. Call today!
