Description for Chevrolet Chevelle 1966

This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle hardtop is the kind of car that generates a lot of interest in our showroom and out at car shows. Why? Maybe it's the gnarly big block under the hood, or the arresting color combination, or perhaps the fact few other cars command the respect of a big block Chevelle. Or maybe it's the reasonable price that keeps people coming back for a second look at this big coupe.
Repainted very recently by the looks of it, the sizzling red paint looks fantastic, a little darker than the Regal Red that was available for this model and probably closer to a Cranberry Red available in later years. With minimal use it shows minimal wear, of course, but that also means someone really looked after it. And honestly, isn't it easy to see yourself washing and waxing this big cruiser on a Saturday afternoon in preparation for a cruise-in that night? In fact, a full-blown detail like that might bring this high-end driver quality paint to borderline show standards, because even with the minor imperfections shown today, it's still that darn nice. For many, the appeal of the '66 models is the careful blending of the old-school quarters and rear end with a more forward-looking nose to create an icon. Plenty of chrome sets off the vivid red finish, all of it nicely restored and glittering like jewelry, and the black vinyl top adds a touch of sophisticated restraint to this street brawler. There are correct 'Super Sport' badges on the flanks, as well as a blacked-out SS grille that would be a trademark for all the fastest Chevys for years to come, although this is not a real SS according to the VIN. With great panel alignment, doors that fit well, and those cool chrome hood inserts, this is a car that gets attention whenever you park it. It's not a sleeper, but it doesn't need to advertise, either, and that's why everyone seems to love it.
The mid-1960s were all about simplicity in design, and like the exterior, the black bucket seat interior is a study in careful restraint. Forget faux wood, this Chevy uses bright metal trim to contrast with the black interior, giving the dashboard a jeweled look that's like a fine clock or vintage stereo gear. Everything soft inside was replaced very recently, and has a very inviting look with no damage, wear, or other defects because it's all brand-new. Instead, all you want to do is slide behind the SS-style wheel, listening to the comfortable groan of the black vinyl bucket seat as you settle in, and grab that wonderfully textured steering wheel and start banging through gears. The center console is a welcome option, highlighted by a big chrome Hurst shifter for the 4-speed and an optional clock in its own trick little housing. An AM/FM/cassette stereo lives in the dash, although it's ready for an update, and a full complement of auxiliary gauges under the dash help keep a close eye on the motor ahead. Like the seats, the plush carpets, headliner, and door panels are all fresh, and one glance in the solid trunk tells you all you need to know about how well-finished this car really is. The car is very, very clean.
The big deal with this car is a rumbling 396 cubic inch V8 which moves the Chevelle effortlessly and delivers a big block punch that's impressive even today. Fully detailed and still looking factory fresh, it demonstrates a traditional Chevy performance look that's light on aftermarket gear. Sure, there are some custom chrome valve covers and a Holley 4-barrel atop a polished aluminum intake, but for the most part, it still looks like a classic Chevy big block. There's a big radiator up front and the wiring and plumbing have been cleaned up to make the engine compartment look very tidy. The 4-speed manual transmission shifts properly and feeds a heavy-duty 12-bolt rear that hangs on a rebuilt and upgraded suspension. The chassis is as neat as the engine bay, although the beefy soundtrack is compliments of Hedman headers that feed dual Flowmasters, and with power steering and power 4-wheel discs, every drive is a good one. A shiny set of staggered Ridler chrome wheels wear 225/50/17 front and 255/450/18 rear radials that look and handle great.
A fantastic look with big block power and a 4-speed make this Chevelle a winner. Call today!
