Description for Chevrolet Corvair 1963
1963 Chevrolet Corvair 95 Rampside Half-ton Pickup• Concours-quality restoration, an absolutely stunning example! • One of the best examples of a Corvair Rampside on the market, complete nut and bolt restoration • Fresh rebuild with about 50 miles and garage-kept since completion by the same owner of 9 years • Stunning exterior paint and a very tidy undercarriage• Rare and distinctive American pickup – unique swing-down passenger side ramp for easy loading, unloading (VIN code R124)• One of only 2,046 examples produced in 1963• Numbers-matching 145 CID, aluminum, air-cooled, flat six-cylinder Turbo-Air engine• Optional four-speed manual transmission and 3.89 rear end• Blue metallic exterior with white trim and blue vinyl interior with white trim• Eight-and-a-half-foot cargo bed with a double-wall cargo box, 95-inch wheelbase and 4,600 GVWR• Cargo bed lined for durabilityCorvairs were far more than four-place, two-door coupes. For most of the early 1960s, the Corvair had a range of models – coupes, sedans, station wagons, a Corvan cargo van and a Greenbrier passenger van plus two pickup trucks, a Loadside and a Rampside. Unique to Corvair, the Rampside feature allowed heavy loads to be rolled instead of lifted into the bed, and Chevrolet sales literature never missed a chance to illustrate it. This ’63 Corvair 95 Rampside was made in General Motors’ St. Louis, Missouri factory (VIN code S) and is only one of 2,046 Rampside Corvairs made in 1963. The metallic blue-and-white paint and trim are in stunning condition. The body is straight and solid, the 8.5-foot long cargo bed is double-walled, measures 43 and 7/8 inches wide and wears a bedliner for durability, the rear engine bay is extremely tidy, the battery appears new and the chrome bumpers look fantastic. Cargo can be loaded from the rear via a standard tailgate or through the handy Rampside door on the passenger side. This Corvair has a 95-inch wheelbase and a GVWR of 4,600. This Corvair rolls on Kumho radials, size 205/75R14 at all four corners. Each tire is mounted on a polished U.S. Wheel mag-style wheel. The wheels are in excellent condition while the tires are in very good order.Out back under the rear-most cargo bed is cover hiding the numbers-matching 146 CID Turbo-Air engine, an aluminum, air-cooled, flat six-cylinder motor buttoned to the optional four-speed manual transmission and 3.89:1 gearing. This example has a rebuilt starter and electronic ignition. The following changes were made for 1963 – a positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) became standard and minor changes were made to the voltage regulator, distributor, cam profiles and valves. Inside, the interior reflects the exterior – a blue-and-white vinyl bench seat in great condition, black carpeting, a neutral headliner, a white, two-spoke steering wheel, a gorgeous blue-and-white metal instrument panel, matching inner door liners, and a floor-mounted shifter but the horn is inoperable.A Corvair truck could be ordered as a “Loadside” or “Rampside.” The Rampside had a side ramp to be used for loading and unloading cargo. During the 1960s, these were used by the Bell Telephone Company as loading and unloading its cable drums was eased by the side ramp. Competition to this Corvair in 1963 included Dodge’s A100 pickup and Ford’s Econoline pickup, plus Volkswagen’s Type 2 two-door pickup. This cab-forward Corvair truck is finished in a striking blue-and-white finish that will turn heads but after almost 60 years, this truck is still more than capable of hauling. This is also a great candidate for a rolling advertisement for a small company.
