Description for Chevrolet Chevelle 1966
This "138" 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS is the kind of car that generates a lot of interest in our showroom and out at car shows. Why? Maybe it's the thumping 396 V8 big block under the hood, or the high-impact red-on-black color combination, or perhaps the fact few other cars command the respect of a big block Chevelle. Regardless, all of these killer attributes blend together to form one of the most iconic muscle cars ever built, and this Regal Red beauty is a fine example that we just can't keep our eyes off of.Originally Marina Blue, this '66 SS was recently painted in what is ostensibly Regal Red (Chevrolet factory bright red in 1966), and we must admit that the color change was absolutely an upgrade. Chevelle's were practically designed to be painted red, and the vivid finish on this 1st generation A-body really looks great. With minimal use it shows minimal wear, of course, but that also means someone really looked after it since it was restored. And honestly, isn't it easy to see yourself washing and waxing this baby on a Saturday afternoon in preparation for a cruise-in that night? For many, the appeal of the '66 models is the careful blending of the old-school quarters and rear end with a more forward-looking nose to create an icon. Plenty of chrome sets off the deep red finish, all of it nicely restored and glittering like jewelry. The vented hood sets the tone up front, there are correct '396' and 'Super Sport' badges on the flanks, as well as a blacked-out SS grille that would be a trademark for all the fastest Chevys for years to come. With smooth body lines, great panel alignment, doors that fit tight and shut firmly, and those cool chrome hood inserts, this is a car that gets attention whenever you park it. It's not a sleeper, but it doesn't need to over-advertise, either, and that's why everyone seems to love it.
Comfortable black buckets show almost no signs of use, and the faithful restoration inside was carried out to a high standard so all the components inside the cab are holding up very well. Matching black door panels with bright chrome accents, a back seat that looks practically unused, and plush black carpets with the correct weave and pile are all components that help this car retain that classic mid-60s look. The center console carries an optional clock and a shifter that looks like something from the future, and there's a set of SunPro auxiliary gauges under the dash in addition to the factory instruments inside the original dash. A handsome and very ornate wood-rimmed steering wheel adds a little class in the all-black passenger compartment, and it matches the wood applique on the dash, and the sounds of the AM/FM/Cassette radio are modern but the look is authentic with the Bowtie emblem on the unit. Out back, the surprisingly spacious trunk was neatly finished with gray spatter paint for a clean look that still shows off just how solid all the pans on this Chevelle really are.
The big deal with this car is the powerful torquey 396 cubic inch V8 under the SS hood. With big horsepower, it moves the Chevelle effortlessly and delivers a heavyweight punch that's impressive even by today's standards. Fully detailed and still looking factory fresh, it demonstrates the right way to preserve your car with a combination of flash and originality. The Chevy Orange engine enamel is still shiny and hasn't burned off from being driven, the inner fenders and firewall are detailed satin black, and the chrome valve covers and open element air cleaner provide just the right amount of bling. With a 4-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock intake atop the block the engine breathes easy, while the HEI ignition and chrome alternator ensure it fires up with ease every time. Long-tube headers feed the dual exhaust below that sounds great, and an aluminum radiator up front keeps the whole show nice and cool. The TH350 3-speed automatic transmission shifts properly and feeds a heavy-duty 12-bolt rear that hangs on an upgraded suspension that has really improved the handling of this Chevelle. The chassis is as neat as the engine bay, the great soundtrack is compliments of twin chambered mufflers, while power steering and power front disc brakes improve the ride experience tremendously. Correct Rally wheels wear staggered 225/70/15 front and 275/60/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A white-letter radials that look and handle great as a finishing touch on this killer muscle car.
Nicely restored with all the right looks, this high-grade Chevelle SS is a fantastic cruiser that anyone would be proud to enjoy. Call today!
