Description for Chevrolet Corvette 1979
Solid running, excellent lines, no rust issues. With a correct and original Red (72) over Oyster Cloth (12C) color combo, this corvette is numbers matching as well. Engine (62k original miles), transmission, glass, distributor, intake, carb, all original to the car, with zero accidents.
Two owners who have kept it in fantastic condition. The paint has an outstanding gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. Both doors open and shut nicely. The original N90 aluminum wheels are in great condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The BF Goodrich raised white letter tires have about 90% tread left and are the correctly sized 225/70R15. There are no major blemishes that have been intentionally excluded from the many photos. There is one touch up on the right front and there may be some small imperfections around the car that were too small to show up in the photos, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five feet away. This Corvette has no rust issues. The frame is totally solid with no rust around the "key hole" area on the frame in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield frame or “birdcage,” which are the most notorious spots for rust on a C3 Corvette.
Window Date Codes
Please note that all of the glass on this Corvette, both door windows, the rear window, and even the windshield are all original as each piece predates the car's body build date of May 23, 1979 (J23). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.
Interior
The Oyster Cloth interior in this Corvette is in outstanding original condition. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the lenses are clear. The dash and console look awesome with no cracks or sun fading. Even the silver line surrounding the edge of the console is still there and has not faded away. The seats are in great condition with just a small amount of wear in the typical area on the bolster where the driver gets in and out. Please note that these are the original seats and skins, not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. It is particularly important that these original seats are in such great condition since the cloth seats are no longer available and there are no easy replacements if the seats are overly worn. The carpet looks just as good in person as it does in the photos. The door panels are in great shape overall. The door pulls are solid and intact. The radio sounds great and gets good reception. Please note that both seat belts work and retract properly. This is a common problem on C3 Corvettes and an issue many buyers do not think to check. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burn marks and no aroma of cigarettes.
Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well, especially for a light color like Oyster, and the excellent condition of this original interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention this car has received throughout its life and another great verification of the low original mileage.
Mechanical
New differential geared for highway speeds, new adjustable rear sway bars, and all new power steering system. Car is also properly registered with title in hand and passes smog. The car starts right away every time, runs well, and idles smoothly. The transmission shifts smoothly throughout the power band. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The car runs cool and does not overheat. The original ignition shielding, air cleaner, valve covers, and catalytic converter are all still in place.
The AM/FM radio works ( I have bought around 1250 worth of audio upgrades that have not been installed but will be included ) as do all the exterior lights, interior lights, indicators, dash lights, wipers, and power windows, even the interior delay light timer still works. All of the gauges work including the clock. The vacuum system for the headlights works correctly. The headlights go up quickly and evenly, with no binding in the mechanism. The blower, and power locks do not work, which is a very common problem on C3 Corvette. The car has a new cat-back exhaust system with a healthy exhaust note as one can hear in the video. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day.
