Description for Chevrolet El Camino LS Restomod 1969
Vehicle Details1969 Chevrolet ElCamino LS Restomod Project
This unfinished project started life as a ‘69 ElCamino SS 396 built at the Fremont, California plant in October 1968. The car remained in San Jose, California for most of its life until purchased by a gentleman in southern Oklahoma to perform an extensive frame off restoration and Restomod build.
The body was completely disassembled, sandblasted, epoxy primed and then body and paintwork done ( Lemans blue color ). Front Inner fenders, core support, firewall and hood underside, as well as the underside of the body and floor pans have all been finished in blue body color. Firewall was smoothed and prepared for a custom Vintage Air system (yet to be purchased).
While the frame was off, it was completely disassembled, sandblasted and powder coated.
Suspension components were powder coated then rebuilt and assembled.
The 12 bolt differential also is powder coated and rebuilt to include new axles and set up with an Auburn posi-unit with 3.50:1 gears.
The motor is a 2002 LS1 with 40k miles, installed correctly with special oil pan and motor mounts. A stand alone engine harness and VATS delete ECM is included. Stainless steel headers are a nice touch in the engine bay. New custom aluminum radiator. New starter, New plugs and ignition wires. New serpentine belt. New hoses.
Transmission is a rebuilt 2002, 4L65E (5 speed with overdrive) with zero miles on it.
The Power Brake system has been upgraded to 4 wheel disc system with with Wilwood adjustable proportion valve. Front brakes are new SSBC disc brake setup, rears are rebuilt late model Camaro.
Power steering is upgraded to close ratio steering box.
The new Fuel tank was modified with a new LS1 fuel pump, the gas filler inlet was relocated to inside the bed and the gas door was eliminated from the quarter panel.
Interior smugglers box area was enlarged to create a bigger storage area, possibly a considerable sound system and a place to store luggage ( the previous owner was planning on traveling with the car). Plans were to install a hard tonneau cover, but that has not been done yet.
AutoMeter Ultra White gauges are set into the instrument panel.
New 18x8 aluminum rally wheels and new tires give this classic an excellent stance.
A custom concealed Class 3 receiver hitch is hidden behind the rear license plate, the rear bumper has been modified to accommodate this. Rear bumper has also been modified to remove the rear reflectors and hide the bumper bolts prior to being rechromed.
Upgraded Custom one piece side door glass conversion kit was purchased for the doors to eliminate the wing windows and new power window systems purchased, all included with the sale.
New windshield.
Currently, the brakes work and the car steers, the final work to make the car start and drive has not been completed.
This is an incomplete project that was worked on for several years by the previous owner. I’ve purchased parts and done some minor assembly work on it but I have decided to offer it up for sale in it’s current state and focus on my other project car. I’m sure You will also need to purchase parts as you go through the assembly work.
If you don’t see the parts in photos, assume that they are not there or feel free to ask. I will photograph the loose parts as best I can if you want to see them.
There was fender damage to the right front fender (loading in trailer) so that was replaced. Also paint has been chipped and scratched (and a couple very small dents) over the years during assembly, you may want to look over that when the fender gets sprayed.
Any parts that are not already attached to the car will be packaged up for transporting.
Serious inquiries are welcome, I can take photos of specific areas for you at your request. I can also do a live FaceTime call with you and we can walk around the car if you like. This a very clean and solid start to a Restomod project. You get to finish it your way.
I also welcome inspection by prospective buyers or a third party prior to bidding.
