Description for Chevrolet Malibu 1983
1983 Chevrolet Malibu Station Wagon Project / Parts Car Auction I am selling my 1983 Chevy Malibu station wagon as a “project” or “parts” car. The body of this car needs a skilled body man to restore; however. the installed and working parts including the a/c are worth a great deal to anyone restoring or building any GM 1978 – 1984 G-body or 1978 – 1987 El Camino / Conquistador. I have worked on this car for about ten years. but health concerns now make it necessary for me to sell it. I drive only about 6. 00 miles a year. I am retired and this has been my project car for the last several years. Until June 2014 this vehicle was my daily driver – it runs well has a new battery (Nov 2014) and the a/c blows cold. I performed most of the work on this car myself - the concept / design are my own. Description: The car has the following estimated mileage: there are approx 15. 00 miles on the Ford 9” rear w/ 3. 25 Detroit TruTrac built to handle 1. 00 hp / approx 11. 00 miles on TH700 R4 built to handle 600 hp – (a 1. 00 rpm stall + a second 2. 00 rpm stall converter is included) / approx 10. 00 miles on a four bolt 383 stroker (325 - 350hp estimated) I have driven this car for about 23. 00 total miles including when it had the original 305 V8 and a three speed automatic trans. Design concept: The original design was to build a turbo car to replace my 1987 Buick GN. I bought a Gen III Chevy engine to use and later changed my design concept to use a 4 bolt main 1990 truck block 383 stroker. The cam is Crane . 460 lift 210 / 204 duration. The car has evolved into what I call a road car. With the OD trans this car will cruise at 100mph @ ~2. 50 engine rpm while off the line acceleration is very good with the 3. 06 first gear and 3. 25 rear differential – it performs about like 4. 11 gears. The suspension has produced a car with true neutral balance. The rear suspension uses four Edelbrock boxed links with relocated mounting tabs on the Ford 9” rear and 1993 Camaro disk brakes. The front suspension uses 1984 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham spindles with 12 inch disks and Global West tubular uppers and poly bushings (this is the secret to the neutral handling). The Global West front upper “A” arms correct the GM designed “push” and make the car truly balanced – you’ll noticed it in your first turn. You can “drift” this station wagon. For anyone building a 1978 – 1984/7 General Motors G-body who is interested in a complete proven synergistic collection of performance parts this is a “short cut” opportunity. Owners of a G-body station wagon. Conquistador or El Camino can bolt these parts onto their car without any changes (the chassis is longer on these models). Four door and two door sedans will require a shortening of the drive shaft and exhaust. A car enthusiast with good skills. tools and a couple of “buds” could install these parts into his chassis in a month (four weekends). Parts list includes: 1983 Chevy Malibu station wagon body – good interior. seats etc. . and good glass including the rear window. New rear window mounts needed – they are hard to find. 1990 Chevrolet 4 bolt main truck block bored and stroked to 383 w/ Edelbrock 1401 carb. Weiand Stealth manifold. Pertronics distributor. Elite headers & Summit dual exhaust. Crossfire / corrected distributor cap and copper core wires. ($2. 00) Geared high torque starter ($300) 1990 Chevrolet factory serpentine belt arraignment for ease of maintenance and reliability ($200) TH700 R4 with custom length driveshaft built to handle ~ 600 hp ($2. 00 includes two torque converters - 1600 & 2100 stall) Moser Ford 9” w/ 35 spline axles and corrected geometry (mounting flanges location optimized for better rear axle control – no rear wheel hop). TrueTrac center section w/ 3. 25 ratio gears and 1993 Camaro rear disc brakes. ($3. 00) Balanced large diameter drive shaft with two heavy duty 1350 yokes. ($125) Edelbrock 4 link adjustable “box section” rear control arms – the rear stays put! ($400) Tubular upper “A” arms. bushings and front springs by Global West ($900) 1984 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham spindles and brakes – corrects factory under steer – these are the most important parts of the handling package) don’t overlook their importance ($250) HD GM police type anti-sway bar with poly bushings and new links ($125 not installed) 4 American racing hydro formed wheels – light and strong for low unsprung weight ($1300) Vanco hydroboost brakes w/ Corvette dual section master cylinder and proportioning valve ($600) HD Aluminum radiator built to cool a 650 HP circle track engine – ($300 plenty of cooling!) Sweet 14:1 quick ratio steering box ($175) Autometer “Z” style gauges – Speedometer. oil press. water temp. fuel and volts (not installed) ($225) New a/c compressor & hoses / single wire alternator / water pump / power steering pump ($500) Drivability: With rear end gears of 3. 25 and a 3. 06 first gear ratio the off line acceleration is very good. The cruising speed is very relaxed with the 0. 7 overdrive TH700 R4 (@ 70 mph the engine turns approx. 2. 80 rpm / @ 100 mph it is about 2. 70 rpm). This car is a “sleeper”. it is not a dragster. but rather it is a great handling Road Car. Braking is awesome with the 4 wheel disc setup and the Vanco hydroboost. I went with Vanco hydroboost because I originally planned a turbo car hence no vacuum available for the brakes. Summary: Project cars always cost much more than one thinks. I have over $17. 00 in parts so anyone who would like to use these parts to finish his own car has everything he needs. Simply put if the buyer has a 1978 – 1984 Malibu or other G-body or a 1978 – 1987 El Camino these parts will bolt on directly. At this time the engine is tuned for mileage – small lean jets. but I include a complete set of gaskets and an Edelbrock 1406 tuning kit and manual. Tuning for the performance / track takes about an hour. The biggest problem here is with the body. I live in Cocoa Beach. Florida which is a barrier island - very hard on body sheet metal even if stored in a garage. This car is reliable you could drive it home. Florida Title is clear. auction bidding starts at $2. 00 (not the reserve) and runs for ten days. Reply via ebay to me for conditions of sale and delivery or call me at: (321) 305. 2964 END
