Description for Chevrolet Camaro 1970

Pro Touring LS3 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Super Car Roller – Detroit Speed Suspension. Forgeline Wheels. BF Goodrich G-Force KDW Tires. C6 Corvette ZO6 Big Brakes. Ford 9” Moser Rear End For sale is my 1970 Pro Touring Camaro super car project. I have decided to sell this dream car project because I no longer have the time I once had to dedicate to this bad ass car I set out to build. I also have a very nice 73’ survivor Camaro that I have decided to play with using what little free time I have available to me. When I originally decided that I wanted to build a car of this caliber I. just like everyone and their brother thought I wanted a 69’ Camaro. I was all about the 69’ until I saw the July. 2010 cover of Camaro Performers. On the cover was a red. 1970 Z28 split bumper car. It was right then and there that I began to remember seeing these bad-ass looking 2nd gen split bumper cars as a kid and that is when I “woke up” had an epiphany and realized just how incredibly sexy the early 2nd gen cars truly are. It was at that moment I forgot all about the 69’ F-body cars and forever not looking back. These early 2nd gen cars are so old and so rare in numbers that hardly anyone even remembers them which is why 69’ cars are so cliché and dime-a-dozen. Certainly. there are a lot of very high end and very bad-ass 69’ 1st gen Camaro’s out there but to me. the 70’ to 73’ cars are the sexiest looking muscle cars GM every built! Once you take one of these already awesome looking cars and build it into a modern pro-touring g-machine. these cars end up looking ANGRY as hell and sexier than a Victoria Secret’s super model!! This 1970 car is no exception and is built to be an ass-kickin’ pro-touring super muscle car with top of the line equipment and components. Every part on this car has been purchased BRAND NEW. This 1970 Camaro is a super nice package for somebody who is serious about building a bad ass. high end. pro-touring car with all brand new modern day automotive technology without spending endless amounts of time and money on metal fabrication. If you are one of those guys. this rolling project is for you. Keep in mind when building a pro touring super muscle car of this vintage. you are faced with 75% of the total cost to fruition immediately and all up front. You are faced with the initial purchase price of your car. (just too then tear it down). media blasting. epoxy primer. body and metal restoration. rear suspension fabrication. mini tub fabrication. rear end housing fabrication. roll cage fabrication. suspension system components (front and rear). engine. drive train. wheels. tires and brakes. This car is already at this point with top of the line g-machine. super car equipment. Engine: Brand new GM Performance 430 hp LS3 crate motor = BAD ASS – Enough Said… Suspension: This car is sitting on full Detroit Speed and Engineering super car suspension front and rear. The front suspension on this car is equipped with the DSE front hydroformed sub frame assembly with Detroit valving and JRI adjustable coil over shocks and OE GM C6 Corvette ZO6 front spindles. Also included with this front sub frame assembly are the Detroit Speed and Engineering “LS” style engine mounts that are designed specifically to bolt the LS3 directly into its new home on this front sub frame assembly. The body mounts are also from DSE and are the stock height variation. The rear suspension under this car is also the DSE 4 link Quadralink system again with Detroit valving and JRI coil over shocks. Working in tandem with the rear suspension and already fully fabricated and installed into the car are the DSE mini tub inner wheel houses which allows room for the killer BFG 335 wide g-force KDW’s that are tucked very nicely into the rear wheel wells. I am not a big fan of powder coated suspension components so I ordered this front sub-frame in bare metal from Detroit Speed and had it and the control arms gently media blasted. These components were then cleaned and shot with PPG DP90 epoxy primer. I knew I would want to have this front suspension system painted just before final assembly. Also included with this suspension system are the DSE frame rail connectors. These connectors have NOT been installed or welded into the car. This means that the brand new floor in this car has NOT yet been cut up to install these connectors. The primary reason these have not yet been installed is because I have not completely decided if I even want to use them or not. There is a big commitment with these units as they get 100% welded into the floor and completely 100% welded to the sub frame assembly. There is no turning back once you commit to installing these units. Rear End: This car has a bullet proof Moser Engineering custom built and narrowed OE Ford 9” rear end housing with big 3 ¼” axle tubes. I personally drove over to Moser Engineering in Portland. IN to have this rear end built by Moser. This rear end unit has the Moser “Torino Big Bearing” housing ends with Moser 31 spline axles and a hand built Moser 3rd member. The 3rd member was assembled with all new components and an Eaton True Track 3:89 LSD with the upgraded “big bearing” option and pinion yoke. This rear end was then aligned with an alignment jig and Moser then welded the “Torino Big Bearing” housing ends onto the unit for a precise alignment. This rear end housing was media blasted and coated in epoxy primer prior to final assembly. Wheels: Forgeline - Concave Series SC3C – These wheels are absolutely sexy as hell. I knew when I set out to build this car that Forgeline wheels would be an absolute. The fit. finish and craftsmanship of Forgeline wheels are incredible. These wheels are expensive as hell and worth every penny. They were bought brand new and they have ZERO miles on them. The Moser built 9” rear end was spec’d and narrowed specifically to fit these wheels with the backspace offset that I specified from Forgeline to work together as a unit with the DSE rear suspension and mini tubs. I relied upon the technical expertise of Detroit Speed to achieve this set-up. I wanted my car’s suspension to be set-up just like Kyle Tucker’s 1970 DSE test car. These wheels (and tires) fit beautifully in the rear wheel houses of the car and are completely tucked. The Forgeline SC3C is a true 3 piece wheel construction and these wheels scream the following adjectives: BAD ASS!! ANGY!! SEXY!! The rear wheels are 18” X 12” with a huge wheel lip. The front wheels are 18” X 10” also with a very nice looking wheel lip. The inner wheel rim is a gun metal grey color; the outer wheel rim has a brushed natural aluminum finish with a low gloss clear. The double spoke star center section is finished in what Forgeline calls “transparent smoke”. If you go to the Forgeline website. you can click on “Concave Series” and you can pull up a picture of these wheels finished with the brushed aluminum low gloss outer rim and the transparent smoke center section which is exactly the wheels I have on this car. I believe you will agree that these wheels are just killer! They make this car look very angry!! Brakes: This car has the big “super car” brakes that look awesome through the Forgeline wheels. I purchased the “big brake kit” front and rear sold by Kore 3. This car is sitting on C6 Corvette – Z06 brakes with 6 piston front calipers and 14” rotors with 4 piston rear calipers and 13. 4” rotors. While I was at Moser Engineering. I brought my rear brakes and rotors with me to ensure that the Moser axle flanges were machined down to the correct specs to interface with my rear rotors. I also opted to order the optional drum-in-hat rear parking brake assembly from Kore 3 with the rear brakes. Tires: BF Goodrich G-Force KDW’s 335/30/ZR18 Rears and 275/35/ZR18 Front – These tires are brand new with zero miles and still have the new tire labels stuck to the tread. Door Hinges: Included with this car is a $650. 00 set of BRAND NEW Ring Brothers door hinges. These units are manufactured from an extruded aluminum manufacturing process and just like any product that is lucky enough to bear the Ring Brothers name. they are top of the line and just AWESOME!! Everybody knows that these 2nd generation F-body doors are EXTREMELY heavy. There is not a 2nd generation Camaro out there that does not have the usual sagging. worn out and sloppy factory OE GM hinges unless it is a 2nd gen car equipped with a set of these kick ass hinges. The Ring Brothers realized that this is a huge problem and so they engineered and designed these super nice units to replace the OE hinges from GM. The quality and engineering that went into these units is amazing. If you are not familiar with the Ring Brothers or these particular hinges. than do yourself a favor and Google “Ring Brothers” and navigate to their website. Be prepared to be blown away!! Body: When I started this project. I searched and searched for a decent car to begin with. The 70’ to 73 Camaro F-body’s are extremely rare and very hard to come by. I was not interested in buying one for $10. 00 to $20. 00 with fancy shiny paint just to tear it down and replace 90% of its parts with brand new. upgraded. modern components and then getting down to bare metal just to identify all the hidden half ass body/metal work and rust issues that is typical with cars in this price range. I located what I considered to be an average condition early model 2nd gen car that made sense for the initial purchase price. Just like any and all early 2nd gen Camaro’s. I knew this car would require all the usual and typical major body restoration with new exterior sheet metal. This car was blown apart and what few parts that are going to be reused were tagged and labeled. The remaining parts that I knew I would be buying new were either tossed in the trash or scrapped. The car was then braced. stabilized and mounted on a rotisserie and then sent out to be media blasted. After the media blasting process. the car was thoroughly cleaned and then immediately sprayed with black PPG DP90 epoxy primer. The car was then set-up on a chassis rack jig to begin the sheet metal restoration process. Most of the external car body is absolutely 100% brand new. There is not a single stitch of rust anywhere in this F-body Camaro. I do not believe in patch panels and there are ZERO patch panels in this car. I am the kind of guy who will spend the $$ to buy and replace an entire panel before I will “nickel and dime” around with half ass patch panels. This car’s entire body has been hand fabricated and messaged using genuine GM and Dynacorn panels. I was very impressed with the quality and fit of the Dynacorn sheet metal. The fit and finish and welding is top of the line and 10x’s better and stronger than “Johnny lunchbox” at GM ever thought about 45 years ago on the assembly line. The craftsmanship and quality of the metal work and fabrication that went into this car is obvious when you stand in front of it. All areas where overlapping panels come together to be welded has been cleaned and coated with weld-through primer. You will notice in some of the pictures you will see a copper type of color around certain body panels on the car and especially in the photos of the rear mini tubs. That copper color you are seeing is actually SEM brand copper weld through primer that was applied before welding two pieces of bare metal together. There is nothing hidden or disguised by shiny paint. This car body is 100% transparent since it was stripped to bare metal. You will be able to instantly understand that this car is very honest in terms of its completely rust free body. Prior to the media blasting process the car was stabilized and braced. The obviously rusted panels that needed to be replaced (such as the rear quarter panels) were rough cut off the car with a plasma cutter in order to get the car opened up so as to facilitate a very complete and thorough external and internal media blasting process. This means that all the internal inner structure sheet metal (that from the factory was barely coated). with years of minor surface rust accumulations was accessible in the blasting process. These otherwise non painted metal surfaces original from the factory have been blasted clean and also sealed in DP-90 epoxy primer. The original body panels are in a satin black epoxy primer (PPG DP90) and the new panels are in the factory black (E-coat) EPD coating. This car’s body is 100% clean with ZERO crusty factory seam sealer left in it and ZERO body filler of any kind. It is ready for paint and body work and your body shop will love you when you bring them a canvass as clean as this one. Also included with this car is a very nice genuine OE GM factory hood and rear deck lid. both completely RUST FREE. In addition. I also have two OE GM factory doors complete with window regulators. glass and all door lock/door handle and latch components. Also included are two brand new front fenders. In addition. I also have the original front and rear bumpers for this car. They have been media blasted and primed in the same PPG DP-90 epoxy primer as the body because my plans for the car’s exterior DID NOT include any chrome. The original factory rear glass is also included with the car. The only other body panels you will need to obtain for this car is a radiator core support. upper and lower header and valance panels. and front inner fender skirts. All of these remaining body panels are inexpensive and can be sourced from AMD (Auto Metal Direct) or Dynacorn. There were not too many of the original parts overall to this car that were really worth saving as I planned to just buy and replace all the old antiquated parts (such as the original steering column) with new and improved modern parts. An example would be a new IDIDIT steering column with push button start. The misc interior items that needed to be saved and re-used will be included with this car such as dash components. and interior trim pieces. The original seats front and rear are also included with this car. I of course had no intentions at all in using the OE factory front bucket seats as I planned to just buy some very nice. new. modern and bolstered racing seats for this car (such as a set of Recaro’s). I did however have plans of recovering and reusing the factory rear seat back and bottoms. These seats have been stripped down to bare metal frames. They will need to be narrowed 2” each and re-upholstered accordingly to work correctly with the DSE inner wheel well mini tubs. Summary and Terms: I have done my best to accurately describe this 1970 pro touring Camaro project however. words and pictures can only say so much. To truly understand just how bad ass this thing really is requires you to be standing in front of and behind this thing looking at it in person! I am only interested in communicating with serious prospects about my car. If you are serious about this car and would like to speak with me directly. I can be reached on my mobile phone at 618-521-1416. If you are a serious buyer and would like more specific information about this car. pick up the phone and call me. Do not email or text me. I am not interested in texting at all as it is a waste of time. There is WAY too much information to be conveyed about this car for email and texting. This car is located in Southern Illinois. Please note that I have this car listed locally and I reserve the right to end this action early. If you would like to make arrangements to come and look at this car before you bid. I would be willing to facilitate this with a serious buyer. Please. do not bid on this car if you do not have the financial resources available to purchase this car. Also. please do not waste my time by calling me thinking this car can be “bought right” or bought “cheap”. If you are thinking this. you are looking at the wrong car. I do not have to sell this car at all and I will just keep it and continue to build it in my sweet time before I take a huge financial hit on this car. I know exactly what this car is and what it would cost anybody else in real $$$ to build and duplicate this car. I believe my reserve price that I am willing to accept for this car is very realistic and practical. I am very optimistic that this car will sell because of my realistic expectation of this car’s real value vs. what I have the reserve set at and am willing to accept. This is inherently apparent. especially when you combine the costs of the tangible equipment on this car being bought brand new just as I did. and the fabrication costs associated with building and early 2nd gen body to the level of this one. You can literally spend thousands of dollars in metal restoration fabrication labor alone (not including new body panel costs) just to end up with a rust free car body on a chassis rack and that is before spending a dime on any tangible parts of any kind. This is before you can even think about spending the additional monies necessary fabricating the rear suspension. rear end housing assembly. mini tubs and roll cage etc. For the purposes of this listing. I am offering the car with the LS3 engine. If you are serious about this car and you are not interested in the LS3 or maybe you already have your own engine. please contact me directly at 618-521-1461. I have no problem lowering the price and keeping the LS3 and selling the car without this motor and the DSE motor mounts. As I mentioned earlier. I still have a very nice 73’ Camaro as well with a stock 350 under the hood. Buyer is responsible for all necessary shipping and transportation arrangements. If you are the winning bidder. I will require an immediate PayPal deposit of $1500. 00. The remainder of the purchase price will be required in full at the time of title transfer or when you show up personally to pick-up the car. Please understand that I WILL NOT ACCEPT CASH AS PAYMENT IN FULL ON THIS CAR AT THE TIME OF TITLE TRANSFER !! The only two forms of payment I will accept on the remaining balance for this car is either a verified and certified bank check and or wire transfer. I am willing to store the car for a period of two months upon the completion of the sale. Thank you for taking the time to read this listing and looking at my car. This project has been a significant part of my life for the past 3 years and I hate to sell it but it needs to be finished and my time is better spent on my 73’ car at this point and on my house that I just bought. This platform is the perfect package for an average guy with no metal fabrication skills or equipment and facilities to be able to take off running with this project to the finish line. All the extremely complicated and labor intensive work has already been done. Most guys could finish building this car in a 2 car garage.
