Description for Chevrolet Camaro 1969

For sale is my 1969 Camaro Z11 Indy Pace car. This is not a clone. or tribute car. This is an authentic coded Z11 RS/SS Indy pace car. Original 396/325hp big block V8 with a turbo 400 automatic transmission. This is a very early built 69 Indy pace car. Assembled the very first week of pace car production. Car was originally purchased new in Mississippi. and spent most of the time down there. Then was brought up to the Chicagoland area in the early 2000's. I've owned this car for over ten years. I purchased this vehicle from the second owner. The car is very solid. and never had any rust. This is the main reason why I purchased the car. The underneath of the car is remarkably clean. No outer body panels or structural panels were replaced. Very few cars retain most of their original engine parts. nbsp;body parts. nbsp;floors and trunk. This car was all intact when I bought it. but needed a total rebuild. The interior was cracked and faded. The top was in real bad shape. There was no back window. Most the plastic parts and rubber seals were deteriorated from the southern heat. Every mechanical component. driveline. nbsp;suspension. braking system. fuel system. exhaust system. heater system. wiring. weather-stripping. and interior part was restored. or replaced to match the period correct factory part. I went through the entire car myself from the convertible top down to the five new BF Goodrich 215 70R14's tires. In the trunk is the complete original date coded jack with the thick rubber trunk mat. The interior is near perfect now. The seats are nice and firm. and very comfortable. All the gauges are original to the car. except the clock. It's now a quartz movement. I added the rosewood wheel. It just looks better. The original black sport wheel with the rosewood insert was badly cracked. The original AM radio works sometimes. and the dash cigarette lighter is not working at all. The new convertible top is beautiful. and operates flawlessly. The rear plastic window is crystal clear. The chrome and stainless on the car is also nice. The paint on the car is good. but has some paint chips. paint cracks. nbsp;and a few small dings. This car really needs to be blocked out. and repainted to be of concourse quality. and to increase its value. The paint on the car is considered nice driver paint. I priced the car for sale knowing that it would need paint work eventually. Body and paint work is one of the trades I don't do. Under the hood looks factory fresh. Presents a nice stock appearance. All components are in the correct place where they should be. Engine runs very strong. shifts. steers. and stops straight. Nice stock exhaust rumble. Per the last owner’s conversation. the car was in a slight accident. The car slid off the road. nbsp;and went into a ditch. The right side frame rail has a small dimple/crease in frame just behind the tire because of the incident. As seen in the picture of the RHS sub frame. It's been there for nearly twenty years now. It causes no problems. or driving issues. I've driven this car over 75 mph numerous times. and can't believe how smooth the ride is without any rattles or vibrations. The alignment is near perfect. I wanted to keep the original frame with the car. I think the car its worth more this way. I thought this is important. and you should know about this. New Goodmark sub frames are avaialble for around $1000 if you wanted to bolt on a new part. There are still plenty of used frames to choose from. Next. nbsp;the cylinder heads. intake manifold. nbsp;and carb were not original to the car when I purchased it. The previous owner install a set of Chevrolet 840 closed chamber heads with an aluminum Winters intake. and a dual feed Holley carb. He didn't care about originality of the car. he wanted the car to go fast. Lucky the original stock cast iron intake manifold came with the car. I was able to find a set of late 1968 oval port stock 396 heads. and a 1969 Q-jet 396 automatic carb. These parts do not have a serial numbers. They were stamped with casting dates and part numbers from the factory. Just the engine block. transmission. and car body had a serial number identification number from the factory. These parts are correct for the car to include the cast dates. and part numbers for the application. The block is original to the car to the best of my knowledge. Correct part number. cast date. nbsp;and assembly plant application code "T0207JG". I did not find the s/n# on the block tab. or by the rear of the block next to the oil filter housing. There are machining witness marks by the front block tab. The block most likely was decked at one time. Next I totally rebuilt the engine with a master TRW engine kit. Engine cylinders were bored out to . 030ths. A 396 that's bored out to . 030ths. nbsp;it's actually a 402 CI. All new pistons. rings. bearings. oil pump. timing gears. and a nice performance camshaft installed. Even a correct set of green stripe AC N44 spark plugs have been set in place. I had the original coded big block three core radiator rebuilt as well. Engine has under 1000 miles on it since the rebuild. and the transmission just a few hundred. Like I said. all vehicle components have been rebuilt to include the RS hideaway headlights assemblies with working headlight spray washers. and the cowl induction hood flapper. They work perfect. Very cool options to have on a car. The 12 bolt differential was the only major part that I left untouched. Just serviced the fluid and installed a gasket. The real leaf springs are also original to the car. The car has never seen any severe weather. Only driven on nice days to work. and a lot of cruise nights. Car has been very reliable. Turn the key and go. A real head turner. This is a 46 year old car. and a rag top. so there will be some air. and water leaks. and will need adjustments from time to time. Car is not perfect. but a very nice complete car. This car is meant to have the top down. and to be driven. That's the intended purpose of these muscle cars that we love so much. I don't consider this car restored. I didn't take this car completely apart. I repaired the mechanical issues. painted the components what I thought would be correct. My focus was to rebuild what was needed. and enjoy the car. I'm not a professional car restorer. just an amateur hobbyist. I tried to explain the most accurate description of this car as truthfully as possible. Please contact me with all your questions. Around 200 hundred of the 3675 pace cars built were factory big blocks. This car is a solid investment. and will only go up in value. Most of the pictures are current. some from last summer. Here are the part/cast numbers I've recorded from the car during tear down and reassembly. I have a clean Illinois title in my name. Several sets of keys. Orange parade boot for the top. Yellow display flags and bumper brackets to mount them. Original set of 1969 Illinois plates. I don't have any of the factory or dealership paper work. The warranty card "protecto plate" wasn't with the car when purchased. The car looks just as good as the pictures. or even a little bit better. I can help assist with the transport company.
