Description for Chevrolet Other Pickups 1949
I am offering my rare original survivor 1949 Chevy 3800 1 ton truck for sale. It is unusual to see a 1 ton with a deluxe cab (5 window) with a chrome grille and bumpers. Mileage is unknown because of a broken speedometer. The title has 66. 03 miles. I am the third owner . Currently. it is in good running condition. It has not been restored. It is a survivor and retains its original paint. what’s left of it. The second owner purchased the car around 1980. I have the original title and owners manual. The serial number is 5GS-D 2693 (1 ton 137” wheel base). The plate on the driver door post has these stamped numbers. The rest of the information has worn off. The interior is original. I was told at the time of purchase the seat had been replaced. It has a worn seat cover. I don’t know the difference. The driver window mechanism works poorly. The rear center glass is broken. Speedometer is broken. Turn signals were added decades ago but don’t work. It is still 6V. The body panels are original including the doors and hood. The paint has faded and disappeared because of age but it is guaranteed to be original. There has never been any significant body damage. The damage done has not been repaired. No panels have been repainted. The bed is original and shot as seen in the photos. Even though it is a Kansas truck it has little rust. The cab corners look good. The frame and out riggers are solid. There is minimal rust in the floors as seen in the photos. Both fenders have stress cracks at the rear. The passenger side hood hinge is broken. The stud that supports one of the brackets has broken off. You can see in the photos the hood does not fully close. The engine is the 6 cal 216 cu. in. It is the original. The truck title VIN is the engine number. This was the typical method for titles in Kansas in the late 40’s and early 50’s. Compression check a couple of years ago was good. #1 86 #2 105 #3 100 #4 90 #5 90 #6 90. Oil pressure gauge works. Top of the scale is 30 and it runs above the middle. It starts easily and runs well and does not smoke after the choked start. There is a exhaust leak at the manifold. The transmission shifts without trouble. It is a 4 speed with a very low first/granny. The clutch is fine. The rear end is quiet. the tires are new 17” bias 8 ply that were replaced at a cost of $1200. The carb has been rebuilt. It has a new starter switch. The brake master cylinder and wheel cylinders have been replaced. The brake shoes have been relined less than 10 miles ago. The brake drums are functional but need to be replaced at some point. I just drained the gas tank and replaced with fresh fuel. It should be flushed. It has a new battery. I do not think this car should be restored. Even though skilled people can reproduce this look. the result cannot equal what’s there. I am hopeful the new owner will agree. It has need like a speedometer. lights. door panels. headliner etc. I have a clear Kansas antique title. The complete history of this car is known. This is a unique opportunity to own an original truck. I am reluctant to sell but I need more space and I rarely drive it. I haven’t put more than 50 total miles on it. The reserve is less than my investment. Ask any question and I will do my best to answer it honestly. My Ebay feedback supports this. I want this car to go to a good home and I want the buyer to be happy with the purchase. I have many photos and I am willing to take more. I will have over 100 photos posted on Photo bucket. Contact me for the link. It will be available for inspection by appointment during the auction. Ideally. it should be inspected prior to purchase like any other car. There may have been concerns not mentioned that I have forgotten . The car is sold “as is. where is” without guarantee written or implied. The car will be picked up at my house. I will not deliver. I can help load. I require a 10% down payment within 48 hours with Pay-Pal and the balance in 5 days. The car must be picked up within 30 days. It will not leave here until satisfactory payment has been made. If you cannot meet these requests. please do not bid. Thanks for your interest.
