Description for Chevrolet Camaro 1986
This is a 1986 Chevrolet Camaro with a carburated 5.3 LSX conversion and a TH350 automatic transmission. The car: 1986 Chevrolet Camaro sport coupe originally a 2.8L v6 700r4 auto car ( now fitted with a gen IV small block chevy 331ci/5.3L and a TH350 automatic transmission) Manual windows, locks, everything manual. Hard top. This cars original transmission went out and was parked at approximately 130k miles. It sat in a garage for about 10 years and was brought out for the swap in Sept of 2013. I have put probably 500miles on it since the swap was done. -The interior was completely stripped and cleaned, the floorboards were inspected, (they're solid as a rock) and repainted. -New door weather stripping from softseal -interior panels dyed from grey to black. -good re-felted headliner -New heater core -4th Gen firebird front and rear seats -custom autometer and sunpro gauge panel -pioneer cd head unit -No major rust anywhere on this car. floors are solid and every where is clean. -Body is laser straight, has a little bit of body filler in the driver door - factory finish (originally blue) was completely stripped to bare metal sanded, body filler applied in a few dimples and the door, and sprayed with real epoxy DTM. Then a coat of gloss urethane black was applied for a guide coat. It was then wet sanded with 320, 500, 800 grit sandpaper to get all of the dimples and imperfections out. It was then sprayed with a flat black epoxy sealer. I left it in flat because I liked the look. Its ready for a quick scuff and spray in the color of your choosing. the finish is faded and starting to look bad in my opinion and should be painted in the next few months. -engine compartment was completely cleaned and painted. -custom fabricated fiberglass heater box was made to fit around the ls engine. It has heat and defrost. -Air conditioning completely removed. Who needs AC in a street rod?! -brand new hood shocks! -4" Harwood cowl is bolted onto a lightened steel hood. - cowl hood is 100% functional and sealed from the engine compartment. - has ground effects from a 91-92 rs/ z28 head lights, markers signals and tails are tinted. have an extra set of tails that are un tinted. Engine: 2003 5.3L (331ci) iron block Gen IV chevrolet V8 from a wrecked Silverado truck with 35k original miles. Engine was immaculate when removed. -std bore, stock bottom end. -engine cleaned, painted, and inspected. -replaced front and rearmain seals. -New ARP rod bolts installed for piece of mind. -custom accessory brackets to use the cheaper and easier to come by truck water pump. -custom macined oil pan to fit camaro cassis without cutting crossmember. -Custom fabricated engine mounts. -OE 706 casting aluminum heads -Edelbrock Victor Jr carburetor conversion intake with fully restored holley 600 vac secondary electronic choke. -MSD 6LS ignition control box. Fully tuneable ignition curve, retard control, and 2 step retard built in. -Jegs roller cam .560 lift 280ish adv duration (have cam card available in the paperwork) -Blue Corvette zo6 beehive valve springs. -4th Gen F-body manifolds -dual tucked side pipe exhaust with fitted 40 series flowmaster mufflers. zero ground clearance issues. -OE v8 radiator, and off the shelf hoses keep it cool. -electric fan is both automatic and can be switched on manually from in the car. -OE high flow fuel injection fuel pump is pressure regulated with a holley bypass regulator set at 5.5psi. -GPS run estimates 330-350hp. Can easily be squoze for more. Transmission: Mid 70's Th350 non lockup automatic. -COMPLETELY disassembled, cleaned, and inspected case for cracks and wear. Case was prepped and painted. -New rear planetary shell/ring gear -New front pump -New alto clutches, steels, and band. -New bushings, roller bearings, thrust washers, Torrington bearings -New seals throughout. -New hardened sprag race and sprag assembly -performance mods include internal oil mods to improve shift performance and lubrication. -transgo shift improver kit -Jegs 2700 stall -aluminum extra capacity pan -hughs flexplate adapter -OE V6 driveshaft fits perfectly -This transmission will easily hold 600+ hp. Its shifts quickly but doesn't snap your neck or bark tires at part throttle, very streetable. At full throttle it shifts firm and fast. No slipping, a little tire squall and go. -Shifter is a Hurst V-matic dual gate. has reverse lockout, and can be shifted in typical D-2-1 fashion or put into ratchet mode and up and down shifted by tapping forward and back respectively. the shifter is installed to fit under the fatory console. you Rear differential: -Original 10 bolt 7.625" -3.42 gears -bigger later 28 spline axles from a 92 f body -28 spline zexel torsen torque sensing limited slip (posi traction for some) from a 4th Gen F-body. this is arguably the best lsd gm put in an f body. Puts power to the tire with the most traction. -boxxed trailing and panhard bars Misc: -factory RS 15" wheels with brand new 235-50-15 Falkien tires - good reconditioned oe brakes -all new fluids everywhere Final thoughts: This car is 98.5% finished. It needs paint, an alignment, and the tires balanced. Anything else is just upgrades, it doesn't need anything else. It's fun, fast, and cool as hell. Its taken me at least 300 hrs to get it to this point. There was a huge amount of fabrication involved as well as problem solving. Thats all been done. All the kinks have been worked out. Its ready to drive. Drive it home even! Its a great starting point to go even further with suspension mods, brakes, paint, engine bolt ons, etc. the skys the limit. There is a ton of options available. Its a great way to get riding this summer and turn some heads in the process. You wont find many lsx 3rd gens out there, I guarantee it.
