Happy "eBaying"! Paul R. Wankle Pres. Classic Cars Ltd. Pleasanton CA 925-846-1451 DETAILS-THIS PARTICULAR 1960 CHEVROLET IMPALA Nostalgia is the word for this car which takes us back to the era when each model year had a separate distinct personality that could be readily identified. From 1956 through 1961 the Chevrolet body styling was quite different for each year as opposed to the pastel rounded jelly bean cars of today. This 1960 model Impala is even more unique as the last year for Chevrolet tail fins plus the "Bubble Top" styling. The trunk is big enough to sneak your friends into the drive-in movie. The car has been recently a restoration while maintaining a virtually stock / period appearance. The horizontal fins plus the white accent band on the rear fenders give it the illusion of flight. The car has been tastefully updated mechanically to improve the driving pleasure with a 4-speed manual transmission disc front brakes a Posi-traction rear end and an electronic ignition. It is sorted mechanically and ready to show cruise or take that long overdue trip on Route 66! THE NUMBERS The VIN located on the driver's door post is 01837S172168 decoded as follows: - 0=1960 model year - 18=Impala 1850 series V8 - 37=2 Door hardtop or sport coupe ("bubble top") - S=St. Louis assembly plant - 172168=Production sequence (began at 100001) The trim tag located on the cowl contains information decoded as follows: - Style 60-1837=1960 2-door hardtop sport coupe Impala - Body SL 10915=St. Louis assembly plant - Trim 873=red/white cloth and vinyl interior - Paint 923A=Roman Red - Acc C-EZ1; C=padded dash (no longer present) EZ1=tinted glass ENGINE NUMBERS - Casting #: 3755011 GM2 = 1958 - 1961 Chevrolet 348c.i. - Date Code: A 21 60 - A = January - 21 = 21st Day - 60 = 1960 Note: Engine codes to a correct 348 cubic inch correct V8 The car bears current California license plates expiring in December 2015 (for California buyers). The Chevy has a clear California title and the odometer currently reads 79850 miles. It must be termed "total mileage unknown" since records are not available to confirm this figure. HISTORY OF THE CHEVROLET IMPALA The Chevrolet Impala is a full-size automobile built by the Chevrolet division of General Motors for model years 1958 to 1985 1994 to 1996 and 2100 to date. Deriving its name from the South African antelope Chevrolet's most expensive passenger model through 1965 became the best-selling automobile in the United States competing against the Ford Galaxie 500 and the Plymouth Fury when full-size models dominated the domestic market. For its 1958 debut (the first generation Impala) the Impala was distinguished from lesser models by its symmetrical triple taillights. The 1959 and 1960 models comprised the second generation of Impalas and were an extensive rework of the previous model. Tailfins protruded outward rather than upward and the bodies were both wider and lower than the previous model. The 1960 models created a more conservative look than was seen on the 1959 models and were simply toned down ever so slightly. Stylists and marketers realized that the fin-and-chrome fashion had about run its course and decided to shift direction creating a more conservative facelift. The effect was helped by reinstating three modestly sized round taillights on each side of the top-of-the-line Impala. At the front the nostril air intakes above the headlights were deleted completely. More abundantly chromed than Bel Airs or Biscaynes Impalas found buyers more easily with more than 490000 built. Impalas displayed nonfunctional air intake scoops plus a white band running along the rear fender. Four body styles were offered with either a 283 cu. in. small block or a 348 cu. in. big block V8 engine. Assembly was in South Gate California. PURCHASING A COLLECTOR VEHICLE - THINGS TO CONSIDER As always we recommend that you carefully review the seller's background for any collector car being sold over the Internet. ABOUT CLASSIC CARS LTD. - Classic Cars Ltd. has been in the same small California town for over 21 years. We operate a small "brick & mortar" indoor showroom and specialize in the sale consignment and purchase of sports high performance and specialty vehicles of all types. We have a particular interest in sports cars and unique vehicles. - The majority of our vehicles come from local private owners and collectors and many were sold new in California. We appreciate that rust free cars with excellent documentation and history are especially attractive to our buyers both locally and around the country. As a result we do not purchase our collectible cars from "distressed" sales such as wholesale auctions salvage sales or lien sales. We do not sell vehicles with salvage titles or those that have a history of significant accident damage or repair. We have sold hundreds of unique classic and collectible vehicles and regularly deal with buyers that have not had the experience of purchasing a large (both physically and monetarily) item on eBay or through an Internet source. Our eBay feedback is 100% positive on all vehicle sales from customers around the globe and is a reflection of our commitment to accurate complete and thorough vehicle descriptions. - We have been shipping vehicles for years and have established excellent contacts that are not only high quality but very price competitive. We do not use brokers terminal shipping or other discount methods. Call us or email for a quote directly to your home or office. We are often able to obtain quality enclosed transportation (the kind of travel this car deserves) for the cost of open shipping. - Please review our feedback on eBay (user name Never22Many) representing over 850 positive transactions to buyers all over the United States / World. - We are fully insured bonded and licensed for collector car sales all over the United States/World. - Classic Cars Ltd. carries a $50000 Surety bond to cover financial transactions - We frequently sell vehicles to out of State / out of country buyers and will be glad to provide references for buyers in your area. However we make every effort to accurately represent our vehicles and highlight both positive items as well as areas that require attention. We ask that prospective buyers consider our eBay history/feedback standing in the community length of time in business and other factors when purchasing a collectible vehicle from Classic Cars Ltd. - Minor cosmetic issues/flaws may be present on every vehicle (regardless of cost) including small chips nicks scratches etc. that can be seen on even the best restoration or even a relatively new used "pre-owned" vehicle. Also ownership of a collectible / specialty vehicle is more enjoyable if the owner is familiar with the "realities" of these unique cars. Unlike more modern day vehicles these cars require regular ongoing care/maintenance and some mechanical knowledge patience and understanding can make the experience considerably more pleasant. That said collector / "specialty" car owners will tell you (emphatically) that they love their cars and wouldn't trade them for anything!! - The information contained in this description is believed to be accurate but in some instances has been provided by the car's owner / owners or outside sources. As a result we are unable to guarantee the accuracy of the information. We encourage verification of "numbers" and significant data prior to the purchase of any collector vehicle that you are considering.
